  1. Whoa Class 4000 Steam Locomotive | Märklin (maerklin.de) Model: The locomotive is highly detailed prototypical new tooling constructed of metal. For weight reasons, the locomotive has mixed construction (zinc, aluminum, brass). Essential components such as the frame, boiler, locomotive body, cab, and parts of the tender are constructed of die-cast zinc or die-cast aluminum. Other separately applied parts are mostly constructed of metal (brass). This is an extensive model with many separately applied elements and a highly detailed cab. The smoke box door can be opened. The cab doors and much more can be opened. The locomotive has an mfx digital decoder with 32 functions, controlled high efficiency propulsion, and a sound generator with operating sounds synchronized with the wheels as well as extensive sound functions. It can be operated with AC power, DC power, Märklin Digital, and DCC. The locomotive has a built-in buffer capacitor. All driving axles powered. The locomotive has a built-in smoke unit with smoke exhaust and multi-step cylinder steam synchronized with the wheels, a steam whistle, a smoke exhaust pipe, and a safety valve. The locomotive has running gear lights and other lights that can be controlled. The headlights have a light color correct for the era and that change over with the direction of travel. The headlights will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. Maintenance-free, warm white LEDs are used for the lighting. There is an approaching train lamp as well as marker lights and road number lighting. The locomotive has a red marker light that can be controlled as well as cab lighting and platform lighting. The firebox has digitally controlled, multi-step firebox lighting (flickering) with a soot light. The valve gear switchover is in 3 steps (forward, reverse, continuous operation). There are built-in figures of a locomotive crew. An accessory package with a coupler set, smoke fluid, and gloves is included with the locomotive. The locomotive is mounted on an aluminum base painted black for display purposes. Minimum radius for operation 1,020 mm / 40-3/16", recommended minimum radius 1,394 mm / 54-7/8". Length approximately 126.5 cm / 49-13/16". Weight approximately 15.6 kilograms / 34 pounds 6 ounces. Products bearing "Union Pacific" are made under trademark license from the Union Pacific Railroad Company. 2. I have very small thin flex hose that would slide over the ends and work. Trouble is the hose snapped right off of the holder. So it needs to be replaced or re-attached. I think I'd like to see brass ends that go through the pilot and rubber attached to that. Looks like I'll have to make them myself. Years ago I ordered the ends. I believe they were too small to look the part with the hose and were a lot of trouble to make up. Maybe they were for my O scale. I'll have to revisit that attempt. Edit: got the included extra hoses mounted and all is well.
  3. I prefer the larger G scale KDs so they match up with everything else on my RR. I now put the KD #907 on the front. A little cutting of the pilot hole (wider), filing down the KD box lid width, and some sanding down the MTH mount adapter and she fits. One of the stock MTH proto-couplers failed as soon as I connect her to a train. So I had to change it out. I'll have to get another single brake hose as it's missing. One of the outside three came broken so I wish MTH would have made these more flexible.
  4. Yep Pretty sure that MTH used my model for their dimensions!
  5. Look how many this guy has! Utah UPman - YouTube
  6. I see a lot of great pics here of the new SD70ACE. I just thought they should be in the other post about it.
  7. Whoa, you got the car with the trees too!
  8. Thanks Wow. Very nice line up! I should have grabbed that same EMD scheme from Ray. I was proud of the one I built but now it's just in the shadow! I never put the railings on her or the correct steps yet. I have so many scratch builds at 80% done it's ridiculous.
  9. here's some for comparison. The CSX is scratch built.
  10. Super nice detail and overall look!
  11. figured we could add some pics to this post!
  12. I wish MTH had made these, in NYC and.....
  13. Welcome. Kind of slow here some times but it's a great place to get answers if you need them.
  14. Very well detailed. I wish the air hoses were flexible. Seems to run very well. So far so good! That UP is beautiful. Great paint on many. I wanted the NYC too. I wanted more but I have too much invested in toy trains. I should sell down as I have many that never get used. There was no interest when I tried last time. I too stick with MTH boards for many reasons.
  15. So what I found funny, is that MTH shows a picture of the KD couplers in the manual. They do not state what model # they use. They show the small box which I could not find for sale. It's probably the #835? #835 G Scale Centerset Couplers with Short Gearboxes (kadee.com) So I bought a couple different ones and went at it. All had larger width boxes than what MTH showed. I found the smaller box on the KD site but no one stocked it. I used the box from the #1 coupler just because it was already cut short as needed. I swapped out the coupler for the larger G scale for better handling over my trackwork. I had to cut the pilot to allow the coupler box to fit where it needed to be mounted. One note for me anyways, I think the whole box should be raised about 1/16" of an inch. I could have done that. I just went the easy route and slightly tipped it upwards for better track clearance for now. I think for the amount of work needed, I might try using the whole larger G scale coupler assembly (906 or 906R) for better coupler swing and spring assist on starts. These short box couplers only swing and are a fixed point coupler. I prefer the spring assist (long Boxes) for smoother starts pulling big trains. #906 G Scale Type E Straight Centerset Shank Couplers with Body Mount Gearboxes - Black (kadee.com) I try my best to stay away from the offset couplers from past unwanted uncouplings. Maybe someone else here has done this already and can provide better ideas here.

  17. Funny, I searched twice for that Lionel number and it didn't even come up. Today, a broad search found that number? Still not at Lionel's site though. Sorry.
  18. Oops. Lionel E6 steam here you go 72-8704-250.pdf (lionelsupport.com)
