    AC MTH power

Ray, subject came up on O scale. can the TIU be hooked up passivly on AC track power? Of course this is MTH.
  2. Does anyone know how to install some sort of bluetooth into and engine and send the signal to an outside bluetooth speaker. I want to put a bluetooth speaker outside but need to know how to get the sound from an engine to the speaker.
  3. The BB is working again. seems the switch track wire melted. I got the BB back on the test bench and It is working fine. That is on the bench. Rain agian so will have to wait a day or so to test it on the track. Replaced the 10 ft switch with a # 6 to give it a longer span. seems to work better.
  4. Ran the BB for a couple hours yesterday. All went fine till we were backing it into the shed, the tender hit the switch and then came the smoke, the engine was pulled within seconds of the start of the smoke, We put BB back on the track and he handheld found the engine but no go. the sound function and lights all work but no go with the motors. I am going to pull the front drive and check the motors out. backing up we did notice that the draw bar seems to twist to the side when the engine starts backing up, this seems to put stress on the tender and off it comes. We are also finding the the connection to the tender thru the draw bar is not staying attached. this causes the engine and tender to disconnect. Need some sort of clip to keep the connector connected. I am again very fustrated. I love the damn engine and when it works, the pulling power is awesome, but sometimes I think this thing is a lemon with all the trouble I have had with it. Part of that is not knowing about Linear and PWM stuff. that is all straightened out now. hopefully it is just blown fuses. I now have a five amp fuse in the system to alleviate any shorting problems. Will keep posting.
  5. Am at my wits end, The Damn BB is again not working. worked on the bench just fine, works DCC just fine. again it on the bench it is great , get it out on the track and my handheld says no engine found. after 2 and half years of screwing around with this damn 1400 dollar wall hanger I am pissed. I thought when it worked on the bench everything was fine, WRONG. we now have it hooked up passivly to the TIU, with linear DC Voltage applied . at 18 volts to the track with the plus and minus in proper hookup. CANT FIND ENGINE. I am just disgusted. We are going to put in back on the bench, hookup passivly , if it works go direct to the track and see if it will go. if it does not, I am going to put a Revo in the damn thing and be done with the MTH system. Is anyone else having problems with thier BB? May be I have a lemon. in any event I am very unhappy with this damn engine.
  6. Just to update, My BB is now running fine. I have power supplied thru a 24V 15 amp power supply going to my Revo Superbase station that has the filter update. I have done away with the WIFI part as that problem never did clear up. I now have a MTH handheld and now when I start up, everything works as it should, mind you this is on a test track with the BB on rollers. It is still too cold wet and just plain crappy outside to set up the big track, soon as the weather cooperates, this will be my first to do. If it works as great as it does on the bench it should be a great summer. THanks to Ray also the TIU is hooked up passively and seems to operate well. Am putting the power at a steady 18 volts.
  7. Has anyone ever put a bluetooth transmitter in a G scale train and had the sound transfered to a outside speaker. I have the MTH BB and would like to have the sound picked up by a speaker in my yard. love the sound but would like the neighborhood to hear it also. if this can be done, how was it done.
  8. Got my TIU, WIU and two power supplys back from MTH. first up the USA 10 does have an AC signwave attached to the DC. the tech advised not to use that one with the TIU,. the other is a common 24 volt 15 amp computer power supply, uses and produces pure AC. MTH said it was fine to use. got it all together and had trouble again using the wifi. we finally figured it out. my system for the rest of my trains use Revolution with the Revo base station. this interferes with the WIU as it also has a ac wave to it. we bypassed the Revo Base station, power up the WIU and the TIU putting 18 volts to the track. the BB responded fine to the tablet that I have the DCS downloaded to. also able to use the revo on another train and both trains on the same track and respond well and do not seem to interfere with the other. We are now wondering what amps can the TIU take, I have a large run and getting bigger to be able to run multiple large engines on. I have two Aristo Mallets, and SD70 as well as an Aristo Pacific, LGB mallet and assorted other trains. The BB is the only MTH on the layout. We think the problem is solved but need the amp rating and need to put the train on the big track and see what happens.. all was covered by MTH under warranty and I am happy about that. I got tired of blowing capaciters and other stuff. I did discuss with the MTH guy and he said that there was a bad connection in my TIU that was causing some of the communication problems. we shall see. will keep all posted ******** Ray's notes 12/18/18: I confirmed with Tom via text message that he was in fact using the Aristocraft Revolution CRE-57005S base station (which outputs PWM power) between his power supply and the TIU. That Revo Base station is what was damaging his and his friend's TIUs, causing all the control issues and likely the issues with his Big Boy engine. Now that it has been removed from the setup (assuming his other power supplies are ok) then he should get ok results and should clear up most/all of his issues.
  9. Hi Ray, the engine was tested and ran fine, Still under warranty, got it home, put it on the track, ran about 16 minutes then quit again. We have tried a hand held MTH unit and cant get it to find the engine. switched out TIU's and nothing there either. MTH rep in Wisconsin coming over to see it. on the track. We have tried everything we can to make this thing run and nothing seems to work. cant find which version of TIU I have because the unit will not find the engine and we have absoultly no control of the engine. Had another guy bring his brand new in the box BB over and we could not get it to run. then we got control of it with his hand held and we had 16 volts to the track and all of a sudden I started to bring it up to 22 mph scale and BOOM a capaciter in the the TIU blew and it started smoking. to say the guy was disapointed is an understatement He has not been able to get his to do anything either. I sent a note to MTH but of course heard nothing back. Wish you were closer. If it does not get fixed by Dec. I will be in S. Iowa again and will bring the damn thing down to have to you give it a go. You are the best when it comes to these things but to bad you are so far away. I dont trust the Mail to get it there unbroken.
  10. the most confusing damn thing I find is that Radius stuff on track. aristo craft uses ft for diameter and lgb uses radius, for instance I am using aristo switches with 10 ft diameter. I cannot figure out what that transfers in l terms of feet vs radius. to using LGB and PIKO track. R5 Seems to come out to about 8 ft diameter. I would like to find out how one figures this stuff out. I am not very good with numbers, so I am going to say if I want 10 ft diameter for switches do I go to like R 7 in LGB< PIKO?
  11. Ray, motor definately burned out. one of the armature things in the motor was burned up. I dont have the time to drive down and drop it off, thats why I took it to WI. I do not trust the damn pony express to get it to you undamaged. Dave is a certified MTH repair guy. does all the trains for MTH and others thru Clhoo Choo Bobs in St. Paul. he is in touch daily with MTH and is heavy into repairing trains, is also a RC flyer. even has his own landing strip and also a G layout. I will keep you posted.
  12. Anyone having any problems with the latest MTH Big Boy. Mine has total of 18 hours running time on it. most of that on the stationery board. Have only been able to run on the track about 6 hours total. Got it running and it just stopped. Took it to MTH repairman and burned out motor and some other problem with a part that enables the engine to run in Europe. Tested it out, ran fine. got it home, ran it fine after we got the thing to respond to the WIFI system. ran about an hour and it started chugging and lurching. sound went out and it just shut down. let it rest a while and it again started up. ran for about 6 minutes and started lurching again. fear another burned out motor. Getting pretty fustrated with this 1400.00 toy, think I may have a lemon on my hands. back this week to the repair guy and see what happens. beautiful engine but the damn thing just does not work. when it works its great, but it dont work most of the time.
  13. I got my BB in june or so last year. Had nothing but problems with the TIU and the WIFI setup. turns out bad TIU. MTH repaired it and then the fun started. tried using my note*8. it kept dropping the wifi that you use and that came about when i tried to see what the voltage was. it would click off and you had no control over the engine. I do not use that function anymore. so far so good. IMHO I think the MTH remote system is very tricky to use. I love the quillible whistle, the sound and everything else. If there was a way to install Crest Revolution in it I would but you give up to much. I am not sure the system was designed for outside long stretches of track. Ray sold me some thing that you install in the tracks and since we got it up and running it appears to be working well. I also now shut off my phone and use my kindle for controls. i think the system gets confused if both Kindle and Note 8 are on at the same time. cant wait till this summer to see what old 4012 will pull.It is a bealutiful engine and when it runs, it is fantastic.
  14. Tried to run yesterday and one of the screws holding the front on fell out. train stopped, will get a new one and get it up and running soon
