Yeah Ive been following him for years. Just picked up the manual for the P42. $10 for a tiny little information box I couldn't find on the internet... D'OH.
So I bought a LGB Amtrak P42 in Ph. Vb recently, that was a little banged up, to begin with, for just under $300 (great price right?)
Well suffice to say, the seller did an absolute p. Poor job of packaging it and well things are worse than what it was listed. Nor has the Seller responded to my message about it. Oh well. This was still a score.
So, I was wondering if there is a way to look for parts for it, ebay is a tad lacking in that department at the moment.
Basically the plow is in shambles, the rear pilot and couplers were ripped off, but the pilot is intact enough for me to body mount it.
It could use a new Sinclair antenna and horn, so I may go aftermarket for that.
Mirrors are gone. Those shouldn't be too hard to make on my own.
It may need a new Buhler motor.
I hate to say it but it definitely needs new traction tires (ew.)
So if you know anywhere to get parts let me know whether it be aftermarket or original.
I do want to body mount the couplers and fill in the pilots so even the plow could be after market.
A few good things about it,
So, it's DCC equipped, with a QSI Titan Q2 board. Sounds okay but kind of a pain to program. Indexed CVs are above my pay grade.
All the lights work, they're blueish white, so I can live with it.
The side frames are intact! (This honestly worried me.)
The paint isn't horrible either, this is the worst spot honestly.
Ok so I know I sounded pretty negative there for a moment. Don't get me wrong, I was super excited when it came in! Have been watching sites for years to snag one. Now I just need a couple Amfleets and Horizon coaches to go with it.
In reality, I believe the Superliners are stainless, no paint. I have been experimenting with some chrome paint and looks well. These are just patterns for a mold and here it is ready to make a mold. Bob.
Oh I know, I was just pulling your leg is all. But it may be a good match too on the other hand...
Well it doesn't help that past O scale HO and the smaller gauges use radius when it comes to curves... O and G gauges use diameter... Which to some (including myself) can cause confusion, and LGB makes it worse by using R1, R2, etc.
As for the Degrees that is the angle of a single section of curved track. So you can divide that number by 360 (or vice versa) to get how many sections you would need for a complete circle.
What is the file size of the picture you are trying to post?
To be honest I'm not sure, I believe when I got them uploaded to the gallery they were all around 3.5MB. I have to use my phone for everything since I don't own a computer.
I know this is an older topic, but does anyone know how to remove the vents and hatches from the top of these? I bought an ADM 42' that I want to "convert" to Corn Syrup use. So I need to remove the one with the lid and move the filling hatch to that location.
Yeah that color looks closer to C&NW yellow...is it painted or is it molded in yellow plastic?
Your middle loop of FasTrack is missing a piece...That steamer better backup a bit so can get a running start to jump the gap
No problem! Couple more in the gallery, I was having issues getting images in the post so uploaded them there and only linked one.
I want to say painted, but I am not sure, I don't think they painted the door fully either...
Notto mention I can't find 501419 on TTXs roster either, seems to be a common thing in G scale where running numbers don't exist... Well except for that Railbox from LGB... Which is shocking. The ATSF boxcar I have from them is just the item number.
I don't think she'll make it, no plastic in there.
I just had a few extra sections so that's just where I decided to store the postwar S2 Turbine that sees occasional use, runs great but noisy as hell. Lol

Just got mine in today, and man the TTX FBOX seems to be way to bright... of course a LGB RBOX could be the wrong color too but I think it's closer to TTX yellow than the AML.
Granted it is a really nice car, and it rolls smoothly.
Also it's not letting me add photos due to low memory??

Its a Tight lock coupler that Amtrak uses on nearly all of its equipment.
