I like what you have done. Pic 4 looks real good.

moving along front top hand rails and vents. The vents I made from buttons and ground them near flat on the top.

The opening for the screw drive I made from 10 separate pieces. A little bit of filler is required at the edges and that will be done. I have been using a very fine Auto finishing filler elsewhere on this but I am not happy with it. Seems to shrink a little to much when it dries. Any suggestions?

You saw correctly regarding the popcorn but I think the critter is an Antelope of some kind from Africa. No matter, it tickled my wacked out humour.

Hatch Cover and Hand rails done except for the very front ones at the top, and the reason for that is some minor detail parts have to be done where they mount to. Also, the wire I used is music wire and it is as hard as hell, (Wrecked a quality hacksaw blade in 2 cuts) and tough to bend also. We learn I guess. Will get some brass wire later in the week to make the front rails. So... here is where I am at............. Now it is back to the body.

Started on the roof line and it is more complicated than I first thought. So did it like a layer cake. At the moment it is drop in to allow for painting and the like. The piece of clear is to give me an idea of the hatch cover. It looks kind of bare without the handrails but will start on them in the next couple of days

Rob. Your idea has merit and I will have a go at it if the other way does not work. I hope it does though as the panel is a nightmare as you can see from the original photo and to scale a 5 thou thick piece of brass sheet would be perfect, if it works that is. Still I have to try though as the tender with the louvers is a noticeable feature. Jerry. I am familiar with Bryans work and did discuss with him along time ago about U.P 80 and he was very interested. I was only thinking about him the other day and wondering what happened to him.

Odd you should mention 1:29 scale as I almost did just that when USA brought out the P.A. Even draw up the plans for it in that scale and borrowed a P.A. from the hobby shop I used to frequent in another life. Then I went to the darkside (1:32) with the promise of cookies, So it all got shelved until recently. Got a little bored today so did a bit of painting Also went to the local hobby shop and purchased a sheet of 5 thou. brass . Going to have a go at the louvres with that. In the meantime it's on to the roof line.

Today being Labour day here in Victoria, I thought I would do a bit on this today. Inserts behind the ladders and plan out ,drill the portholes, and then fit the two doors. They say the devil is in the detail and I am a little stumped with how to make vents. In particular, these ones Any one have any idea's on how to do this? The photo is to scale

After many years of planning and research into this I have FINALLY started on my pet project of U.P Coal Turbine 80. It is in 1:32 Scale and two parts are scratch built and the 3rd part a bash from a MTH PA. I took a leaf out of someones post a while ago and started with the tender as the first stage of the build. So far after about 20 hrs of messing about this is as far as I have got with it. I might add here that the centipede section and front truck I managed to get from Ray but in his own words the truck is unobtainable and he was keeping the one he sent me as a spare, until i told him what was going on. Many thanks Ray. So a start has begun

Got this BNSF unit of evil bay here in Oz as a dummy. Turns out the shop was stiffed by someone and he got stuck with a loco that had been purchased by someone who had basically blown it up and then got rid of it to the shop. End result was I got it for $250 Aud and all the parts that had been pulled out with it. After some investigating and a quick call to our Fav. MTH dealer, (you all know who) A new PS3 board and a wiring schematic to fix the mess I end up with this I told Ethel not to look but was too late in the first photo. Now to assimilate it to the railroad colours of Armor Yellow and Harbour Mist Grey. The other thing to arrive on the day was these units in immaculate condition. Again purchased from our Fav. MTH Dealer. along with some very special spares he was able to snare for me for a small project. The razor saw is being sharpened as I type by Egor out in the Lab, err workshop, for the rear unit. The front unit will be also be assimilated to this roads colours as well

I too have had great experience with Ray, mostly behind the scene. His advice and help enabled me to understand the MTH system and convert that to battery remote control. His professionalism and approach to his clients could be a model to some of the Hobby stores I have dealt with in the past and come away either unhappy or just never going back. Kudos to him.

Love my GP38 units. Was lucky to score 2061. Then detailed them from the other photo near Cottonwood 1991. No ditch lights on either loco. Some light weathering on the trucks and lower half with Chalk dust and LED headlights. RCS remote and Dallee sound. Made the plows myself and sprayed with Tamaya harbour mist gray. Kadee couplers.

I am with Chuck on this . All Battery and waiting patiently Would mean no more trail cars for the TIU.
