How to check the DCS version that you have loaded to Remote & TIU: (You have to check each separately) - Remote: Turn on remote and confirm the x.xx number you see when it first powers up (4.10, 4.20, 5.00, 6.00, 6.10 as examples) - TIU: Using the remote and with TIU powered up, go to MENU -> SYSTEM -> TIU SETUP -> TIU VERSION This version is important as it is required in order to operate the new WiFi module (WIU) that is about to be released that allows you to control your trains with the Android/iOS app. Download: (DCS v6.10 for TIU & Remote) - From MTH: DCS v6.10 (See instructions below on steps to download and install from MTH) - Or direct .Zip file here: DCS 6.10.zip (**Note: You do not need to change or upload anything to your engines. Step 1: Updating the TIU **When updating to a different version of DCS software in your TIU and remote, you should always start by updating the TIU first.** Connect your TIU to the computer using either the 9 pin serial or USB cable (Your computer can already be booted up) Plug the 3.5mm stereo audio cable ends into the TIU's "Proto-Dispatch" & "Proto-cast" ports Connect the power supply to the Fixed 1 input port OR connect the Aux power supply to the Aux power port on the TIU Start the DCS Loader program Close out of any unnecessary programs or applications and do not use the computer while the update is in progress Click the load software to TIU Icon Carefully follow the instructions on the screen. (it will instruct you to connect the serial cable and 3.5mm audio cables) Then select the "*.DCSt" file (example: "tiu6p10.DCSt") The update process should start and will tell you when you are finished Step 2: Updating the Remote Once you have updated the TIU software to the version you are wanting to use, then update the remote. Connect your TIU to the computer using either the 9 pin serial or USB cable (Your computer can already be booted up) BE SURE TO REMOVE the 3.5mm stereo audio cable ends from the TIU's "Proto-Dispatch" & "Proto-cast" ports Connect the power supply to the Fixed 1 input port OR connect the Aux power supply to the Aux power port on the TIU Start the DCS Loader 5.xx program Close out of any unnecessary programs or applications and do not use the computer while the update is in progress Ensure your remote has good batteries and test it by turning it on. Ensure the remote is off before you get started Connect the remote to the TIU with the 4-pin narrow phone cable. (Be sure to plug the remote into the Remote input port NOT the AIU port!!!) Click the load software to Remote Icon Carefully follow the instructions on the screen. (it will instruct you to connect the serial cable and remote cord) NOTE: When instructed to press the power button on the remote, the remote should remain off. If the remote powers up, it's not detecting it's plugged into the TIU. See below steps for troubleshooting. Then select the "*.DCSr" file (example: "remote6p10.DCSr") Follow the instructions on the screen The update process should start and will tell you when you are finished.

Just wanted to share that an updated version of the DCS Consumer Loader v2.34 has just been released. This is the PC software (free) for your computer to upload firmware to your TIU/Remote or upload/download sound files to MTH Protosound 2/3 engines. This latest version of the DCS Consumer Loader software is used to program the DCS system components (Remote, TIU), Load sound files (in Proto-Sound 2.0 and 3.0 locomotives) and backup and restore the DCS Remote handheld. Among the many changes to the loader, the list below represents the most significant from previous 2.X DCS Consumer Loader software versions. Increased wait time on power cycle after loading Consume Package File. This accommodates the changed method of relaying information back to the user from the engine. The engines now use a Morse code audio response to indicate lading of software rather than lights. This is due to the software that supports Proto 3/2 engines Re-enabled Get Sound File From Engine. This can take in excess of an hour for the large PS3 sound files Added compatibility check for PS2 5V files attempting to be loaded into PS3 engines. The Loader no longer allows this due to major differences in the 5V sound files compared to the PS3 memory structure Increased reliability on Original HO PS3 Steam sound file loading Loads Code Chain Files (DSP Firmware, FPGA, CV Data). Mac users may find that running a Windows emulator might work.The below information details how the cables are to be used. Cable Types Reprogramming The Remote In order to reprogram the remote, a tether cable that connects the remote to the TIU is required. The tether cable MUST be a 4-conductor handset cord from any standard telephone. This is the cable that connects the handset to the base of the phone. (These are available here *Click to buy*)Reprogramming The TIU In order to reprogram the TIU, a standard RS 232 cable is required. This cable is to be connected between the TIU's PC Connection Port and a COM port on a PC. If your computer does not have a 9 pin RS232 Com port, but only USB ports adapter cables are available here *Click to buy* The updated Loader program also will support USB-Serial adapters from most manufacturers. For those users that own the Rev L TIU’s (released in December 2010) you can use a type A-B USB cable. This cable will also supply power to the TIU’s processor so that you don’t heave to bring along a transformer to power the TIU when you load TIU or Remote code. NOTE – The USB cable does NOT supply power to ANY of the TIU’s outputs. The mini-to-mini cable MUST BE A STEREO model. You MUST NOT use any cables that have adapters. The DCS Loader Program will prompt you step-by-step for each of the loading options as you select them. TIU (Remote Input) Ensure the 4 conductors in the bottom of the Remote are all parallel and NOT touching one another. IF they do when you go to load the remote code your remote will power on. TIU (Proto-Cast and Proto-Dispatch Audio Jacks) The Stereo mini-to-mini cable should be fully plugged into the Proto-Dispatch and Proto-Cast audio jacks on the TIU. When power is applied to the TIU, look at the red LED. It should NOT blink or flicker at all. It MUST remain on constant. This indicates that the TIU is in Program Mode. If the LED blinks then it means your mini-to-mini cable is not stereo, you have some other adapters on the cable, or you do not have the cable plugged in fully at one or both of the jacks. NOTE: When loading the remote code and prompted by the Loader program to hold down the power button on the remote, you should notice that your remote LCD remains blank. Your remote should not power up. If it does check the handset cord cable to ensure it has 4 conductors or inspect the jacks on the TIU and the remote to ensure no pins are touching or bent over. Also, you must remove the mini-to-mini audio cable PRIOR TO loading the remote code. I picked up a couple of these MTH Russian Iron (aka 'Blue') boilered Triplexes (One Gauge) with a recent purchase and wanted to share some photos on what the production model actually looked like. I haven't seen many good quality pics that I felt accurately depicted the actual tone of blue/grey the production model had. Most people (including myself originally) preferred the black boiler version but having seen the blue in person I have to say it does look good. When the app first starts it looks for available WIUs. Hit the Refresh button once for every extra WIU you have on your network. (ie Press refresh once if you have 2 WIUs) Your active engine list will now be updated or you can now add engines and run trains. WiFi Firmware updates: (ver 1.1 Released 02/03/2016) Details regarding the update: WIU Wi-Fi Firmware v1.1 update To update: - Download the latest WIU Firmware *Click Here* - You will download one file (example: WIU_1.1.0.bin). No need to unzip, this is the file you select to update the firmware (See instructions in WIU user manual) - Log in to the WIU with your PC (refer to pages 9-12 in the WIU user manual *Click Here to download*) (WIU interface is called "LuCI") - Flash the WIU per the instructions in the User Manual Troubleshooting Tips: Key items to note: Some are having issues related to their devices and/or wifi networks themselves that are getting blamed on the MTH DCS app. (OS problems/Cheap tablets/Power save feature in phone/table OS/etc) Read through the items I have provided below. Some are also having issues with their App auto updating but they aren't updating the TIU to the latest DCS version when the app update requires it. So some are running old DCS versions 5.00 loaded to the TIU trying to run the most current version of the App and isn't working correctly. See the note I have below on this issue along with recommendations. Make sure your tablet/phone is actually connected to the MTH created Wifi network. Picture (Connected to Wifi) (You need to specifically confirm you are connected to the MTH wifi network and not another like your home network) Picture (Not Connected to Wifi) 'No TIUs Found' error message: Note, I have found that upgrading the WIU to the firmware v1.1 (released on 2/3/16) has resolved all occurrences of this issue. However if you get this message first make sure you are properly connected to the MTH WIU Wifi network or have it configured for your home network correctly (as noted in the Wifi DCS Users Manual - See above for link). If connected to network, close the DCS app and restart. (you need to manually close the app not just hit the home button). If you are unsure how to close the app, try rebooting the Smartphone/Tablet. If you still get the message, Cut power to the layout/TIU and WIU and power back on. Then hit the refresh button. Engine not responding: Hit the Refresh button to update your active engine list. Make sure the engine has been added to the App by adding 'New Engine' Connecting to WIU Wifi network: Network Key for logging into WIU wifi network directly is: mthdcswifi Power save mode on phone/tablet: Make sure you deactivate power save features applied to the DCS app itself and turn-off power save mode on the tablet. I generally recommend changing the screen time blank timeout to longer periods of time. MTH Wifi/vs home network: If you have issues with app and you are using your home wifi or Ethernet network, connect your tablet/phone directly to the MTH WIU Wifi network it creates. Tablet lagging/Slow: When tablets get to low battery levels it typically goes into power save mode and runs the processor at lower speed levels that can cause apps to lag and may cause issues. If your tablet is running low and lagging, stop using and charge it back up. App Auto-updates in Google Play store/Apple store: If you are someone that can't update your TIU/Remote software yourself or don't stay up-to-date on when new DCS versions are released, you may want to turn off App Auto-updates. Some App updates will need updated DCS version loaded to the TIU/Remote. Tablet quality/Price: Remember that you do get what you pay for. If you are willing to spend $1000s on your train collection, be willing to spend a little bit on a good quality tablet to ensure you get good battery life, decent speed and avoid strange issues that can come up with some of the cheapest tablets out there. The application itself may be a relatively simple and lnot very demanding on the tablet processor, but you still need reliability & stability! I have personally used the inexpensive Amazon Kindles with good result but in general I recommend considering a good quality name brand tablet like Samsung to minimize the number of issues you might encounter and to get good battery life. My personal preference has been the 7" tablets but 8" is likely close enough in size to feel the same. I would expect all Apple tablets to be of high quality and not have issues noted here on very low end Android tablets.
