USA Train Switches

What is the difference between USA 10' switches and #6 switches? Can I use them interchangeably or only at certain spots? I see the #6 switch is a bigger(longer) switch, so when do I use this one or the other size? I don't have any switches now, new at this and looking to purchase. I'm running on 10' diameter USA track.

Thanks!

Thanks Chuck but I'm not understanding since I'm new to this hobby. Since I'm running on a 10' diameter curve track don't buy the #6 switches as they are too big and instead buy the 10' switches?

Bigger switches work better like larger curves . but the 10' will work... the  #6 will work better... think of then as a sweeping curves .. Does this help ?
