rbrown7713
Yes, and another interesting ad on the same page is Robert's Lines. Pouring another one today and I built a stand for the funnel so disaster doesn't strike again. Bob.
rbrown7713
This is yet another mystery with this E-8. I am wondering what the question mark means marked on the mold box? Did the worker that looked at the actual mold not know what an E8 loco. was? Open for suggestions. Bob.
rbrown7713
I am ready to pour the second shell and this time I built stand for the funnel so that it doesn't tip over again, not fun. Bob.
Jerry B44
Nice work Bob. Glad those parts helped out some. Sure like that, looks nice.
rbrown7713
Yes, the parts will be well used, thanks. Bob.
rbrown7713
Well, I poured the second shell and it went without incident. Poured 2 lbs. of plastic and the plastic showed in the vents and that was it, should be a good shell. This time I will try to wait 24 hrs. It's hard to do. This pour is for the B unit end to attach to the A unit to make a B. I measured the the end and compared it to my B unit and it matches up perfectly with the vertical battens. Shouldn't see any seam. Sean
You're on a roll now!! I hope it comes out of the mold easer with it being cured longer ..
rbrown7713
Yes, I think it will and also I will be using spreaders to make it easier to spread the mold and therefore allowing it to slide easier. Bob.
rbrown7713
The shell came a little bit easier, but really doesn't want to come out without a good wrestle. I hate to cut up these two shells, but If I want a B unit, that's what will happen, Bob.
Sean
SO if you end up with an ABA cosist how f ing big will it be ? It's nice that you have large curves ..
rbrown7713
Who knows, I might end up with an ABBBBBBA. I won't need any passenger cars. Bob.
enginear joe
WOW! they look great from here. Nice work.
rbrown7713
Thanks Joe, the only bubbles that occur is on the bottom rail and I cure that by using CA to fill and shouldn't be able to tell after sanding. I have cut up two A units for the B unit and plan to make a mold for the B unit end cut. Bob.
rbrown7713
I am on my way. I am making a mold for the end piece shortly. Bob.
rbrown7713
Here is my design for the B unit other end mold design first section of the mold. This is tough one, but I say that about every mold I make. It would be a lot easier if it wasn't for the 1/4 inch roof overhang. I don't, at this time if this is going to work, but we shall see. Bob. Chuck
Looking good! I've wondered about why that overhang?
rbrown7713
He hid a possible uneven seam on the roof. Here is the beginning of the second part of the mold and I think it will work well and the part will easily be able to be removed. I just saw, by looking at the picture why, in the original mold, he designed the mold to extend higher than the bottom rail was to avoid the roughness that I have on mine and I will remember that for the next mold. Now, the part that comes out of this mold, I will have to sand out and repair the bottom rail. Bob.
Chuck
Nice! What I mean is why not leave the rear piece on as that would eliminate the overhang??
rbrown7713
If you look at the end piece, there are angles that would complicate removal from the mold as it is hard enough to remove it, as it is, even with relatively flat surfaces. Here is the mold almost ready to pour the second part as soon as I get some more silicone. Bob.
rbrown7713
Ready to pour silicone, when It comes in the mail. Bob.
rbrown7713
Poured the second half of the mold for the end section of the B unit. Most of the molds are complete for a complete E8 A AND B unit. Still have to make molds for the brakes and windows. Today I will be making a drawing of the frame and all of the holes, lots of different size holes. Bob.
Sean
Are you going to pour the frame or make it out of aluminum ... Hmmm could you por some metal to make it ...
rbrown7713
The frame is aluminum, just like the original, same alloy and thickness. I am making a drawing so that I know where all of the holes are to copy. Bob.
rbrown7713
I finally got the end piece out of the mold, wasn't easy, something about these e8 parts that don't want to come out of the mold. This mold will produce some good parts. Here is also the frame. Bob.
rbrown7713
E-8 B, came out good except the curvature of the roof didn't exactly line up, differences of the roof at opposite ends I guess, but with a little of creative filling and sanding will make it look OK.
