Jerry B44
I always liked the Stirling Singles, but only Aster had one and it was pricey. When Bachmann brought out the 'Emily' , a locomotive in the Thomas the Train line I bought it. Like all the Thomas engines it is loosely based on an actual UK locomotive, in this case the Stirling. The 4" driver is really neat to watch. I took off the eyes/etc and found some parts online to aid me in my build. You can get a new boiler front, splasher piece with the holes, so you can see the wheel revolve behind. The engine runs real smooth. I converted it to battery power using a Rail Boss 4 R/C unit and a My Loco Sound card. I sanded off the boiler bands and covered it with Nashual brand metal duct tape. Rustoleum brand paint was a good match for the green of the coaches that I bought also. They were really wood but I am not going to try that. Just about done, Stan is sending the decals(he said I worked him too hard). Still need to get on the handles and boiler stanchions/rails, they are coming from the UK.
