jime
Were do I find the model number on a Bachmann Spectrum locomotive? I picked up one for $20 at a swap with 2 coaches, tender and Locomotive. Tender has Denver & Rio Grand on it. The Locomotive just has #14 on it. The motor runs but it sounds like a gear is striped. I have never dismantled a G Scale Locomotive before so I would like to do some research before I jump in. Just for some background, I have been working on things like this for many years just not any trains. Jim
grsman
Jim What is the wheel arrangement of the locomotive? Tom
jime
It's a 4 6 0.
Neil Robinson
Take a look at this web page. http://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/references.php# Somewhat confusingly the Large Scale items are in two sections, one around the middle of the page and another near the end. I suggest examining the "LS ANNIVERSARY EDITION 4-6-0 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE " file from the list in the middle and the "LS 4-6-0 METAL GEARS.frame & wheels " from the list near the end. I think the "metal gears" in the latter link may refer to metal valve gear rather than a metal replacement for the plastic gear in yours that is probably split or stripped. I hope I'm wrong though and a metal replacement is on offer.
grsman
You will find the latest LS Anniversary Edition 4-6-0 has metal gears. http://shop.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=255_433_436&products_id=2894 There are complete chassis avaliable for the 4-6-0. I don't know if the metal gears are avaliable separately. I think you will find the 4-6-0 is a BigHauler series and not a Spectrum loco.
