UP 6944 - Cosmetic Restoration

Recommended Posts

This post was online of the 6944 taken this month 4/2015:

UP 6944 has been moved into the paint shop after having its lead-based paint professionally removed by a contractor. Built in 1971, the 6944 was cosmetically restored by UP upon donation to the Museum of Transportation in 1984. 31 years later, the big Centennial was overdue for another paint job. The work is being done as part of an agreement between NS, the MOT, and the Virginia Museum of transportation. The 6944 will be returned to MOT when finished.

The more I see this engine, the more I want to build one. I should say, the more I want one. It really looks like something that should be available in G scale. If no one makes one soon, I'll have to get my hands on another beat up SD45 and start chopping! I can't bring myself to chop up a good engine.

I wish I could see these engines in person before I try to build them. These pictures will really help!
