Thanks Raymond … all the credit to you for the MTH DCS and sound!
I finally fixed all of my coupler issues. I like the spring controlled coupler arm on the MTH coal cars … no problem with the AC Dash9s swing radius. I appreciate your expert guidance and for Kadee Coupler many options.
Now if you can help me convince my wife about a garden RR. Our back yard is about 150' x 120' plus a garden area.
My RR world is limited for now to a 10' circle, hopefully soon an outdoor layout may break ground … but for now I need a lot of imagination. I can sit for extended periods of time and watch the train go in a circle. Best therapy other than shooting at targets at the range.
I have attached pictures of my attempt to mount a Kadee to a USA Trains intermodal frame as compared to the truck mount. The reason why I need a body mount on an intermodal is because the two AC Dash 9s that I run have body mount protocouplers installed. On a 10' diameter curve, the Dash 9 body mount coupler doesn't have the swing radius required to accommodate the swing radius of the intermodal truck mount coupler so the lead car was always derailing. Based on Raymond's recommendation for a transition car, I used an AC box car with a #781 coupler on one end to the intermodals and an #830 on the end to the Dash9 and it works perfectly with no derailments … but I would prefer not to use a boxcar in the consist.
Sam/Kadee recommended a body mount (#830) on the intermodal so I had to cut of the piece of decorative trim from the intermodal body so that coupler box (#831) would mount flush with the body. However the size of the box, restricts the turning radius of the truck.
Any thoughts?
BTW … Raymond converted my two AC Dash9s to MTH DCS and he is getting ready to convert a USAT NW2 and GP9 to MTH DCS … lovin' my G Gauge … Big Engines with Big Sound is way too cool. Go Big or Go Home!
