Hi, Finally got around to posting a video of my older MTH PS-2 Challenger upgraded to PS-3. I love it now that I get the flexablity to run either via DCS, DC or DCC. Thanks to Ray for supplying me with the new board. Enjoy.
Hi guys, Have had the New 2021 announced Gauge One 4014 BB on order for over a year now and no movement on their website with regards to status. Has anyone gotten any first hand info from MTH or are we all in the dark on what is happening. I know with COVID and shipping issues and any current geopolitical issues, things change. I've sent emails with no reply from MTH so not really sure what's going on. Just reaching out to the community to see if anyone else has heard anything. Thanks....
I hope they will run the UP Streamlined Passenger cars that were cancelled due to the split up of the company. Since we have the 4014 BigBoy and the UP and George Bush SD70ACEs, it would be nice now to get the cars to go with them.
Had the same issue with my 4014. When picking up the engine the screw holding the steam pipe fell out. I tightened both. But right after I did that and put the engine back on the track, one of the screws that hold the side rods on the second driver started working loose, jammed and sheared off the hex head. I was able to back out the screw shank that was left in the hole and called MTH.
They sent me a few screws but they didn't fit. The shank was a smaller diameter and when I checked, it fit my older MTH BB. Must be they changed the fastener to a larger diameter. When I called Midge at MTH, she told me they didn't have any for the 4014s and would need to contact the supplier in China. Not happy.
I did have some hex machine screws that I used to rebuild a Bachmann 2-6-6-2 Mallet. Wham, it fit. The hex was a little larger so I was afraid it would interfere with the side rods when in motion. So I switched screws with the rear wheel since that one would have any interference. Problem solved.
I also loc tited all those side rod screws so they won't work loose again.
Don't forget that this is a PS3 engine so the latest revision update to the TIU would be needed. I believe it's either 5 or 5.1.
I bet you'll find the light bulb on the inside of the tender shell. They normally just stick the bulb through a hole in the side wall of the tender right into the marker lamp. The end of the wire closest to the bulb should have some heatshrink tubing, most likely.
Looks good Joe. Thanks for posting the pictures. Looks like no more green and yellow MTH box. Used to be a box within a box. Interested to see what the roller base looks like. Still waiting on my unit to come in.
I have no problem waiting, it's just that they put dates out there creating expectations that are not good. That is not good customer service. Don't send a letter to the dealers putting dates out there that are not going to be met. That is just not good marketing. I'd just assume they put a date out a year from now and beat it. That would make it appear that they are working to improve production dates etc.
Looks like the #4014 (70-3026-1) was moved from October to December. The #4012 (70-3027-1) was moved to November. Not holding much hope of seeing these any time soon. Would like to see a note from Mike Wolfe on this to explain what the delay is about. If they're not going to be made, just say it so we can cancel our pre orders.
Ray, thanks for posting the survey. I would assume Charlie Ro would be about 2-3 years before anything will be produced based on design, tooling and component production. At least he's got a plan to provide some new models to the hobby. His products are of the highest quality. Just one suggestion for USA Trains, add a plug and play board for DCC, RCC and battery.
