  1. TOO LATE!!!

I just spent two days at ECLTS and spent a bunch of money mostly on MTH stuff and now I'm spent. (That's spent to the 3rd power)  LOL

Believe me I totally understand.....I wish they had a show like that out here in the Colorado Mountains, but considering the amount of stuff I have, I'm glad they don't!!

  2. Oh no no no, Larry...I guarantee you sooner or later somebody who knows more than both of us put together is going to come up with a manufacturer other than REA Aristo-Craft who produced FA-1s. There's nothing a g-scaler likes more than knowing something somebody else doesn't!!!

If you want this set it would be a really nice addition. I've never seen the Reading Railroad livery before on this set, but I know the real Reading Railroad has FAs because I've seen the pictures!

I'm not trying to talk you into anything....in fact, the slower you go in the beginning buying stuff the better off you will be. Save yourself a lot of headache and money and don't be like most of the rest of us who have WAY too much stock, especially when we start out.

    Ha!

  3. John,

Did you post somewhere as to which company made the trains?

    Thanks,

    Larry G.

    Hi Larry,

To tell you the truth, I didn't know anyone except Aristo-Craft made these, but these are Aristo-Craft, although they aren't marked that anywhere that I can see, like I mean anywhere....

They have the swing, underbody-mounted couplers with the articulated connection between the coupler head and the arm.

    Thanks.

I bought these Reading units because I had never seen them around
before and haven't seen them since. They're black with the green stripe
and the yellow lettering. I liked the black and green!

I ran them enough to know they work, then put them on the shelf, so
they are basically new. The wheels are all shiny and new. I tossed the
boxes.....I always used to think that everything I bought would
definitely be on the layout so why waste space saving boxes?; now I know
    better. Yikes!

I would sell them $375 for the set plus whatever the actual shipping is.

Full disclosure: on one of the FA units I broke the horns off at some
point I don't remember when probably during a move and glued them back
on; other than that they are new.

          Thanks.

p.s. if you like you can email me at John @ John Passaro .com, pictures too.

  5. John,

The FA-1 is just part of the collection this man has that used to belong to his brother. He is looking to sell the collection. This is the first time I have seen it. I met him at our local fall festival here in Gladstone this past fall. I am just trying to find out the value of these enegines so I can make him a decent offer on them. I don't want to rip him off and he is not looking to make big bucks off it. He is into O-scale and not G scale. I just want to pay him a fair price. All of the orices I have found on these is off ebay because I could not find them on the Manufaturers websites.

I hear you; when I am in that situation, I take the general median price of the ebay "completed listings" sales price (NOT the asking prices).....however, on top of that, most sellers are more than willing, and it's fair to expect, that if you buy the lot you will get a substantially better price because you are saving them the ongoing hassle of having to sell items off one by one.

  6. And here are the pictures of the Alco FA-1. No B Unit tho. I found it on ebay and it sold last year for $300.00 NEW. Would just like to get a general idea what they might really be worth so I can make an offer on them.

Good morning there....are you trying to buy an FA-1, and does it have to be new? Because I have an FA-1 Southern Pacific I'd sell you right now for $125 and it has the original box although it had been run some, probably needs some oiling because it's been sitting around for a while.

As far as the FA-1 on ebay, man it's a goofy engine that goes for anywhere from $135 to $300, all depending....on what? I don't know.

My experience with ebay buying vs. estate-type buying is that people see asking prices and don't look (or don't want to look) at completed listings so they tend to way overvalue their stock. In an estate setting I wouldn't offer him more than $100 whether it's NIB or not. If he has to sell it on ebay he's going to go through a lot of brain damage and he's going to pay out 9-10% in fees most likely.

I would apply the same reasoning to everything he has that you might be considering buying.

Hope this is helpful. This is just my way of doing it, others may have better ideas about this.

  7. Okay okay...having been corrected on the "vista dome" care, it is actually an observation car named "Vista Club" and I missed that because I didn't want to take 'emout of the boxes. So, I have two observations and three PAX cars.

Thanks, and sorry for the confusion for those of you who know your MTH stuff and know they don't have a #1 gauge vista dome car!!

  8. Instant replay follow up:

Having gone to the video tape, with the play under further review, I see that I have three MTH passenger cars, streamline ribbed, one observation car, ribbed, and a vista dome club car, ribbed.

The call on the field is revised: I'll ask $120 each on the passenger cars, and $140 on the vista dome and $140 on the observation car.

    Thanks.

  9. Hello ...Kevin told me this might be a good place to post because there are a lot of MTH fans here.

I have five MTH Railking streamline passenger cars, actually an observation car, a vista dome, maybe two I'll have to check, and two passenger cars. I'm not going to run streamliners on my layout because I've decided to go strictly with the Aristo-Craft heavyweights behind Alco Pa-PB on inline power.

Would anyone here be interested in buying them for $150 each if you would buy all five? (I think, but I'm not positive, that the observation and the vista dome would go for more if bought separately.) Plus whatever actual shipping there is from Denver.

I bought these and never took them out of the box, so they are totally brandnew unopened...the only DNA on these is the factory worker who packed them!

p.s.....I also have an Aristo-craft Heavyweight Rio Grande combination mail and baggage car, plus an Aristo-craft Baltimore and Ohio Heavyweight passsenger car...why? Because I bought too much stuff! They are both brand new in their original boxes and never run.

If you like you can email me at John@JohnPassaro.com.
