  1. I got it pretty well opened up last night. Found the electrical wires smushed up. My plan is to use a brass tube to join the two parts, Sup. Heat. tube togethere. Using silver solder.  I think the S.h. tube was swedged on to the nipple, as that is how the exhaust pipe was done.   Your thoughts?

  2. WOW...What a journey.  Your persistence has certainly paid off. i will continue in my efforts to get her back on track and steaming...  Thanks a lot for your efforts..  Your mod to the oiler is also something I will incorporate.

Thanks so much Nick...  One for the books.  I will try my best to get it on the Aristocraft Forum.   Nick, I think I that maybe your Loco is a Gen 1, and mine may be Gen 2 but I am going on and remove this Pilot carrier and see what it gets me.  Here are a couple of Pics.

  3. Nick, I think maybe you should stop deconstructing your loco, and I will just cease in my efforts to get it back on line.  I'll put it on the mantle and maybe someday offer it up for parts.  I wish to thank you for your efforts but

at this stage of the game it is probably a lost cause.

Thank you, for your interest and effort.

  4. I took the burner out and the Superheater is free, but it doesn't come out,  the end in the smoke box has about 1 in. 90 deg. bend in it and the hole that it has to pass through is less than 3/4 in. also the igniter is in the way.  I would guess the S.H tube has developed temper with the heat so if I could straighten it it would probably break.  Good going up to here.  Any suggestions?

  5. Thanks for your good info.  I should be able to get back on it soon.  What are your thoughts about using the silver solder and will I be able to get the heat up with Butane? Don't you think Aristo. used Silver solder?  I'll take a look at the Throttle inlet tube.

    Thanks,

    Arlon...

  6. It was probably a stress fracture,  It broke off at the nipple.  How do I attach photos to my reply?

    1. # 9008 This is the broken off end of the Supper heater tube.

    2. # 9013 the origin of S. H. tune at back of boiler.

    3. # 9014 on the left is the nipple, on rt. is the exhaust tube, theae screw into the top of the Steam chest which you can see in # 9008.

I have more pics but these are the best.  It would probably take a brain surgeon to work in there...

My Aristo Mike...Well I still haven't got the ol Girl fixed.  it turned out to be the Super Heater tube broke off where it connects to the nipple from the "steam chest" and it would be a bear to get in there to solder it back together.  with the proper tools.  I found a butane torch that would reach in there but I probably need propane to get the heat to fuse with silver solder.  Does anyone know who could fix her?  This loco was a great runner and I would sure like to get her fixed.?  Thanks guys & gals...

  8. Jerry,  Thanks for responding, Was able to steamup yesterday . Throttle shaft is working Servos respond. Manual mode ,both Fwd/Rev , Throttle work OK. When pressure gets to 40 and pops off from remote moving Mike by hand Fwd/Rev get some resistance from wheels and some sputtering from Cyl. but no desire to go either fwd/rev. I don't think it is getting full steam to cyl. When pressure is at Zero it moves freely by hand both directions. When Fwd is selected from remote and I manually pull in reverse wheels will go backward with a little resistance I wouldn't think they would turn backwards at all.. Same for going in rev. from remote. Maybe steam is blocked somewhere.

  9. Hi Guys & Gals, I guess some of us are still clicking. I was running my Mikado Saturday morning all was going well when my caboose disconnected and I stopped to put it back on. I had run for about 12 min. When I started back up I didn't have any locomotion, Fwd/Rev gearing was working, had 40+ lbs of pressure and blowing off.  Throttle was working fine. No motion. Anyone seen this problem before???
