Pulled out my F3 pair yesterday for a run and battery charge, however when attempted to run forward or in reverse, the rear truck on the powered A would run at 1 mph and then increase in speed like a runaway! Front truck would not run forward or reverse. Anyone encounter this problem?
I'm located in NE PA across the Susquehanna River fromwhat had been the southern terminus of the D&H; Hudson Yard was north of Wilkes-Barre the end point. Remember the roundhouse in W-B; was Trainman for Steamtown NPS with Bernie O'Brien that had the GP38-2 #7312 named for him. I understand the Lightening Stripes have joined the ranks of the PAs & Sharks & may be a Fallen Flag now... He really enjoyed working the #2317 Pacific out of Scranton.
Not only is your layout great, your video matches it so nicely I have realized the 'PAZ' has to expanded it's D&H roster for PAs and passenger service. We will put our D&H Challenger #1535 to use as you have, for now she is relagated to coal and freight drag service out of Carbondale, PA.
Interesting, I was in the process of installing something similiar for the "Pennsylvania Arizona's" [PAZ] shed storage access trackage. Instead, installed an Aristo Diamond that I never used. Have a switch tower to control movements over main line.
From watching the vid's and listening to the info, am I understanding that the building (engine shed) will be on its own? Info shows the engine shops where she was built as being redone into a museum as well (Wheels etc.) - why isn't an effort made to locate in the shop building in a portion of the building?
PS2 conversion in a USAT NW-2 (high runtime); sometimes my system will decide to run with limited speed control. Speed setting 1 mph and the unit is moving at just about overspeeding! Then sometimes, all runs as it should. Remote and TIU are in toolbox mounted at RR.
Also, Rayman, anything on converting a USAT S4 to DCS?
Thanks to all of you for the comments and Chuck for your work with pictures. I have an Alco S-4 waiting for my conversion project; never understood how to do the trucks!
It really is a 'shame' how many $ are spent on re-restorations. Beautiful machines restored and then go back to the wayside for years, then restoration again - like a giant wheel revolution!
Thanks for the post, video on removal of the lettering is a help for me; will be removing the large 7315 and Delaware & Hudson lettering on the long hood of a duplicate 7315 GP38-2. Will put the blue D&H lettering on top with smaller 7312 numbering below for the Bernie O'Brien.
I never got a reply on a Clinchfield's question of Hours/Odometer. My D&H Challenger is high run time (original issue without DCS Switch behind smokebox door), I am satisfiied with my purchase and "NO" complaints.
Sometimes you 'win' and sometimes you 'lose' on these offerings; 1 of my D&H GP38's was a low (great) $ purchase and I found it had a sound system when I opened the box upon receipt.
No 'polarity switch' - to ease the situation, going thru the switches (Aristo WR) was not the smoothist action. So, I put R3 1/2 circles at each end of the "Island" and simplified the trackage. When I have the chance, pics to follow.
My newly acquired Challenger has raised a "reversing siding" for my RR, the 'PAZ'.
This 'PAZ' Island is about 24" long in a lazy dogbone, South end is about 5 1/2 feet and North end about 8 feet, center is approx 5 1/2 feet wide. The 8 foot end is not a tru radius due to some straights added on the West curve for a 30* diamond into the storage shed.
Challenger can come out of shed, across connecting bridge into secondary inside track and left hand WR switch, about 3' to a right hand WR and straight lead. Back thru the straight RH WR and RH WR to a LH WR into engine house. THIS will be a dead track switchable to power to back in, then cutout and switched to power out (reverse polarity) then pull out thru some switches to an X-crossing and backing on the a main which at least 10' curves, maybe some 20' in there as well.
2 questions: 1. Power by removeable allegator clips and wire, or permanent switches.
2. Do I use the reversing switch on the Challenger and will it work.
I just do not want to keep putting-on and taking-off the rails...
D&H Challenger comes into town; although a 'PAZ' Pennsylvania & Arizona acquisition, the 1535 will retain it's heritage Delaware & Hudson number and markings.

Nice, I'd go for it--however my TIU bit the dust, have to get a Handheld and TIU at the end of the month!
