There isn't a specific Thanks feature available. (it can however be added as an add-on for a cost by a third party developer). There is a reputation feature with upvote/downvote and also a 'Like' feature similar to Facebook but many forums choose to leave those disabled because of the way it changes the overall dynamic and experience of the forums. It adds another dimension beyond an objective reply as it adds an element of expectation and comparison among the members which I don't see as positive. We don't want the forums to become a popularity contest with a pecking order. Will look into the Thanks button some more.
Thanks for the feedback Jerry. Unlike a lot of the other websites that chose to go for forum software that is free, this one required a bit of an up-front cost for licensing along with fees every 6 months to maintain it which allows updates for enhancement and security updates. There's a difference between what is free and what you pay for.
Glad you enjoy the choice of forum software, I think it was the right choice.
Your first and last name are not visible to other members or the public, just you. Take a look at this post, you will see only Location information shared for each user who replied. For security this information was restricted from public view when the forum was first setup.
A manual patch has been made direct to the site code that has corrected the issue. If you were having some unexplained issues in using the site, see the link above for more information.
(*UPDATE 7/10* - Issue should be resolved see 7/10 12:50am post below)
***************************
Internet Explorer 11 introduced a number of bugs when it was released that is creating issues for users of discussion forum software.
Users may experience problems such as:
- Cutting and pasting into the forum text window when trying to create a post
- Closing the "Image" Icon pop-up window or other windows
- Adding images to a post (clicking 'Add to Post')
- Along with a host of other problems.
The best way to work around these issues is to install Opera, Firefox or Google Chrome and use those browsers when using the forums. (I suggest using Opera or Firefox over Chrome due to other non-forum related bugs with Chrome)
If you do still use IE11 and want to cut and paste, a work around is to click the Light Switch icon at the top left of the editor window , perform your paste then click the icon again.
We will be researching into how these bugs can be corrected on the user side via browser settings but in the meantime use the provided guidance to avoid any issues.
Just made one additional update to the server which will keep this TS server off the global TS server list. This should be the last step to keep random people off the server. Should not have this problem any longer.
Made additional adjustments to permissions to prevent any further creating of temporary rooms(as you saw with the offensive name), should be locked down now. .
Not sure how many use it from the site, it's there if folks here ever want to discuss something voice for free. (Good for chatting overseas) The latest group has been banned permanently by TS ID, User Name and IP address. Just give it time and we will cleaned it up. Just drop me a line anytime you see someone out there like that.
Thank you for letting me know, I have cleaned things up and booted them off the server permanently. Will keep an eye on things. If you find anyone else there gaming or not there to discuss trains let me know.
Good to know. I personally use the Sennheiser PC 360 which is their top of the line ($250). Extremely comfortable and headset & mic quality is unmatched. For the purposes of the train forums I was trying to suggest something most people might be willing to invest in.
