Dan, I do have a Hudson in excellant running condition with stock phoenix sound that I have considered selling if you havent found one yet, we can talk. Its a beast , biggest reason for me selling it is i need to convert it to battery , and carrying it and tender out to my layout is awkward as it is so heavy 2 trips to be safe. I have small track powered section , all the rest is battery only . Nick

Thanks to all that responded , I took Hudson apart and it turns out black common wire to sound on off switch was broken off!'not sure how it worked at all. Nick H

To add another question , after I get this engines sound working properly I would at some point like to add the ability to use a battery. Switch out wheel contacts and switch in battery car on MU plug. I have seen some posts around this but not detail yet, still looking.

Thanks all for advice , Rayman4449 I just sent you email did not realize folks had responded to my post . I will open it up if simple as suggested , comfortable with electronics as well , but hoping it had been seen before. The fact that it works only in reverse, with smoke unit on seems to follow that it could be related to syncing with puff. Nick

This is only Hudson discussion I could find on this forum, so I will ask I just acquired a used usa trains Hudson NYC . It looks great, motor run great, but sound only works in reverse direction with smoke switch turned on?
