Chuck
Thought I'd share some findings in regards to the USA Trains Motor Trucks. SD40-2 motor truck has a 19:1 gear reduction and being fed 12V DC showed wheel speed of 360 rpm. GP38-2 motor truck has a 16:1 gear reduction and being fed 12V DC showed wheel speed of 390 rpm. That shows the GP38-2 truck being approximately 10% faster. Running the engines on same track would be a 10' spread after only running them 100'. I've seen some folks post elsewhere just run them together...I wouldn't. I've also seen posted elsewhere to use PWC with USA engines...again I wouldn't. USA Trains will tell you on the phone NOT to. The owners manuals clearly state for DC use only.
