  1. I got my 1/32nd scale figures today from Richard. Really nice castings, hardly any trimming to do. I plan to put them in the back of my MTH cabooses. I thought the price was reasonable. Ever look at Preiser figure prices? Other companies charge $10 or so for a figure, so $6 is not bad, I don't think.  Guess he won't do anymore 1/32nd figures, since I was the only one that bought any!  Hard to find 1/32 figures, in case you have not noticed. THose ones you get from China are okay inside a passenger car, but not for anything else.

  2. I ran mine on top of the landscape blocks. Where it goes on the ground I just have chicken grit under it. I do have one section I did with ladder, but get frost heave all the time. Have to pound it back down every spring. I think if you were all ladder it would move evenly. Don Hofshier, there in Omaha is all ladder and has no problem. Might check with him. He's in the RIver City RR club, you should join. They are pretty active, have monthly meetings. Too far for me to drive though.

  3. I was at the Cheyenne Steam Shop on Thursday, 24 June. Sign on the door said no tours, but I went inside anyway. They are taking the Big Boy apart, pieces inside and outside. I guess a Colorado group will be doing the boiler work. Guy that is the head of the shop said 3 years or so is the estimate. 844 may be running by August, new baffles in the tender and new stay bolts on the boiler. The Challenger is over in the roundhouse and he said 'there are no plans for the Challenger', so doubt we'll see it running again. At least not till well after the Big Boy is running.

  4. Grant,

I used some side frames that were made by Great Trains, I think.. THey are 1/32nd scale, I think!  Sort of like the plastic USA ones you can get. I also used Great Trains 1/32nd wheels I got, they are about 1.12". Gary Raymond has some about that size, I think. Just trying to keep things small to go with the small tank. I cut into the front of the frame, just leaving the thin piece to mount the Kadee under.  I also found you can cut down the New Bright trucks a bit, have to re-enforce a section after the cut. I'll try to get some pix up tomorrow. Not sure about the Lionel, I don't have any, they are supposed to be 1/32, I think, but usually sell higher.

  5. I finished up my 10th(and last) New Bright tank car for my train of them. I put on Kadee couplers and 1/32nd metal wheels. I glued a few oz. of weight in the bottom segment, but not sure it was necessary. The size of the New Bright cars fits in with a 40-50's time period better, I think. MTH's tank cars are pretty large.

  6. Ron Teten came over with his Accucrat Forney on a cool/damp Nebraska Sunday morning. We had good steam plumes from his and my modified Mogul with 3/4" cylinders. Got in several good runs.

  7. Bart,

Probably just tie into the wires that hooked to the original smoke unit.  I think that's what I did. Guy I bought the MTH unit from had a voltage regulator with it to step it down some, not sure it was needed or not.
