Here's a shot inside the two axle NWSL block. I detached the wires for track pickup. On a test I found out one runs slower than the other, so they said send them back and they will work on them.
I got this old building, made by Railroad Avenue, WAY back. Guy that had it got hailed out a few years back. He was an early GR guy, so not sure how old it is. Company no longer does G scale buildings. Anyway I finally pulled it out of my layout to give it a much needed re-paint and check the lights I had put in it. Had to replace one bulb(12v little xmas lights). I use good ol' Walmart Acrylics on it, hope they hold up! Doubtle coated everything. Fixed the porch columns as much as I could-had some warpage. Windows are not in good shape, but I don't want to make new ones, so hope they hold up for awhile longer. We have real hard water here and it leaves deposits which tend to whiten things, so I don't do interior detail at all.
Test run of the Challenger went well. Had to try out the CHallenger and Nebraska corn cars I picked up. Baggage car test shows it needs some truck work.
Ray, you just call a few days ahead and make an appointment. Pretty casual. Usually just you and a guide. 307-778-3339 was the number. Get good directions!
Buddy of mine was in the Cheyenne roudhouse lately and saw the steam engines. Here's what he said about the Challenger.
The Challenger is sitting in the roundhouse. The loco is on one track, and the tender is next to it. It will be down for a couple of years while they do an FRA mandated check of the boiler. I think they said it was the 15 year inspection, so they will have to take the jacket off the boiler and give it a good inspection. Not sure if they have to change the flues or not. I think 4014 will have to have the same inspection before it can be placed in service.
In the mean time, old 844 is going to be the workhorse of the steam program! I had so much fun being close to that machine! I was amazed at the incredible attention to detail. There are a few places on the boiler jacket that have fixtures that go thru the insulation so they can pull a plug and inspect the boiler. Even these sockets are chrome plated! I think I surprised the guy that worked there, since I knew a lot about the steam engine.
After more travel preparations are made over the next several months, No. 4014 will complete the journey home to Cheyenne later in the spring, where the restoration process will begin. For the return to Cheyenne, No. 4014 will be pushed and pulled by modern diesel electric UP freight locomotives.
I'd like to see UP 844 made. Quite a few railroads ran that type of engine, so could be pretty popular, besides a UP version. The Dreyfus could be a mistalke, as was the Triplex, only used on one railroad. I sure like the looks of it though! I made a streamlined UP engine, based on a Pacific.

Ray,
Is that the version you put on mine?
