Just a heads up for those of you who don't frequent other train boards: NS is planning several public steam train trips this spring. NKP 765 will be running in Ohio and Pennsylvania this spring. Southern 630 will be operating on the mainline in VA and TN. I am thinking about riding one of the PA trips, but have to see the timetable and ticket prices..

Good to know and glad to hear NS is bringing steam back on their rails. Probably works out good that they are contracting with other existing steam operators, I'm sure this helps them stay in operation. Maybe someday will see the 1218 and 611 return...

Thanks Markoles,

I am on a waitlist for the May 25, 26 and 27: Lewistown, Pa., to Horseshoe Curve, Pa. Host: FWRHS. Steam locomotive NKP 765. I was disappointed to learn that they have a diesel attached (they call it accompanying) to the train for safety/regenerative braking purposes; it takes away from the mystique and beauty of the event…until I read that they expect to have a brand new Pennsylvania (Norfolk Southern) No. 8102, General Electric ES44AC, build date February 2012, 4,400 horsepower; SHE’S A BEAUTY!!!

Thanks again for the headsup!
