  1. I would leave it as PS2. While the advancements are great, I have no plans to even convert mine to PS3. PS2 works and sounds excellent!
  2. Interesting news on the museums move and subsequent move of the #4018. http://us1.campaign-archive2.com/?u=e054793d82705c028918a0929&id=b69f6e4daa&e=b4b25c0e2d
  3. Thanks for sharing that Ray, very interesting to hear some of the additional detail on how the communication actually works.
  4. That is a good thing to point out Joe, as that would work very well except there would be no reverse. Still adds another whole level of nice functionality from the same remote which is nice.
  5. Hi, yes that's it and you will be good to go. On the Bridgewerks Mag 15, do not get that and use it alone... That is an unregulated power brick that is intended to be used with their line of unpowered throttles and outputs 35v+. When used with the unpowered throttles, the power the track sees is controlled by the throttle and is actually good you have that much voltage if you need it, but it is not a good idea to use this alone. Bridgewerks Mag 15 (unregulated brick): Do not use unless using unpowered throttle to regulate What I would get is one of the Magnum SR series if you don't need a PS that outputs over 15amps: (there are 5, 10 and 15amp models) The USA Trains power supply will work fine in your case. If you were trying to signal 250ft+ of track I might more strongly push you to a bridgewerks but with what you're doing the USA will be fine. Hope that helps. Raymond
  6. Joe covered it... If you are using the TIU and remote it doesn't matter what power supply you use with it, you will always have access and control to all the available features. The only time you lose features is if you are using an MTH AC power supply (with bell and whistle buttons) without using the TIU and remote and switch to a DC power supply when not using the TIU and remote...(as Joe said just running the trains on straight track power with no digital control via the TIU and remote) then you will not be able to trigger the bell and whistle with the power supply buttons because they aren't there. The DCS commander is a remote, TIU and power built into one unit. Since you already have the TIU and remote I would get a separate DC power supply and not bother getting the DCS commander. Since you are going to be powering a relatively small oval you should be able to use just about any power supply and it work with no issues. The USA Trains power supply should work good. (Although I'm a big proponent for Bridgewerks) Hope this helps some. -Raymond
  7. Hehe... On the new boards question I'm not what is meant exactly. O gauge engines have been shipping with PS3 for the last year plus so PS3 is out. MTH refers to the board they are using in O as their "O/G" board so the "O" boards were designed with G in mind. PS3 board development should not be the thing that holds up the roll-out of any One Gauge offering. Don't have information on any changes they are making with regards to couplers and hadn't heard any were required to utilize the existing couplers. The Protocouplers are basically a solenoid and would expect that if there was a modification needed, it likely isn't too much. You short power through a coiled wire to create a magnetic field to activate the coupler. Other designs should still basically be a solenoid. Yes the new lighting circuits are all LED and from what I've seen of the factory engines they are nice and proper white light so the upgrade kits will have the same lights included for install.
  8. Hey Jerry, just glad I could help! Most current update from an email received today by fellow member Ben S, MTH will release an electronic only version of the 2013 One Gauge catalog and is targeting the end of May for it's release.
  9. Sale from now till 4/30, 21% off entire order. Use coupon code: cheers
  10. Really like that last picture Jim. You done much running this year?
  11. The Aristocraft 2013 ECLSTS car is now on-sale on their website: http://www.aristocraft.com/G-Gauge-40ft-Plug-Door-Boxcar_c_46.html
  12. Hi, Welcome to the forums. I would direct you to this topic where we have discussed MTH and their remaining in G scale. MTH has recently confirmed (Sept 2012) in an interview with Andy Edlemann, VP for Marketing that they are in fact remaining in G scale. MTH was supposed to release a 2013 catalog in March but given that we haven't seen it yet it may be delayed. Any future production of engines 4-8-4 or whatever will hinge on their release of a catalog. When we see a catalog and what is listed we will know exactly what they will be making. http://www.gscaletrainforum.com/index.php?/topic/4-mth-new-2013-catalog/ Raymond
  13. While Jerry won't have the full enclosure in his, I can tell you the difference in sound between stock setup and what I have in mine which includes that upgraded speaker is just startling. Listen to this video: http://www.rayman4449.com/MTH_BigBoy_Soundtest_1000kbs.wmv - 32mb
  14. Will start this thread to post and share the latest Aristocraft sales available. As new sales are available in the future, post them here. 4/1/2013: (PCC Trolley sale) http://www.aristocraft.com/PCC-Trolleys-Aristo-Craft-G-Gauge-Model-Trains_c_12.html
  15. Hmmm you know I'd probably send them an email or call them. I know I do periodically asking when they're going to release a DD40 hehe.
  16. Looks good Jerry. Let me know what you think of the new speaker.
  17. I would have to think it's gotta be getting closer (for Accucraft) with regards to next engines they think that might sell well. No way I would spend $7-8k on one tho.
  18. This should be interesting to see when done, thanks for sharing Jerry.
  19. Hey there, sure can.. PS3: - Increased memory capacity for sound files (higher quality sound) - All LED lighting instead of Incandescent. (saves power and longer light life) - The future PS3 upgrade kits will have available a board that will allow the PS3 board to drive the existing PS2 incandscent lights to simplify upgrade. - Auto 'Rule 17' lighting of the headlight (auto dims when idle for a period of time and brightens back up when commanded to move) - Eliminates the need for a polarity switch on the engine - Has improved signal processor which matches the type used in the new Rev L TIU. So while you get greatly enhanced signal performance from a Rev L TIU with PS2 engines, you get an even greater benefit with PS3 engines and Rev L TIU. - Eliminated the rechargeable battery pack (uses built in capacitors for backup power) - Can be run and controlled in a DCC environment (DCC power and control). See the below link for more info on DCC PS3: - http://www.rayman4449.com/DCS_Overview_Videos.htm#Operating_PS3_Under_DCC Other notes: - PS3 engines are fully backward compatible with all existing TIUs and Remotes. - PS3 boards use chips and components that are more easily sourced on the market which will ensure there are never supplier constraints in the future. (i.e. should never be issues with getting PS3 board / upgrade kits in the future once they start making them) - All current production MTH engines are being made with PS3 installed. (for the last year +) - PS3 is available for HO and O. (Boards for HO are different from O and are designed to accommodate the reduced space and amperage requirements of HO.) - No MTH One Gauge engines have been produced yet with PS3 but all future production from 2013 on will come with PS3 installed. - The O gauge board was made with the One gauge line in mind so no additional design work should be required for the One Gauge roll-out.
  20. I'm with you on that, I could never do that to one of my expensive models. I have a 93 Honda Accord with 170k, so I guess I can expect it will hold out as long as I need it sounds
  21. Wanted to share for those that have been wondering, MTH just indicated to me that PS3 upgrade kits are targeted for 2014.
