  1. Chuck, where can I find that??
  2. Horses: a person in my past owned a Jumper, he was a giant of a horse, but gentle as a lamb. He could read a persons temperament and if he didn't like you he made it known to stay away from him. Your companion doesn't look his age, but I bet he/she is a firecracker, they are the best. Trains: very frustrating morning, two 'swinging' problems with the lighting, one bad switch wire that was broken under the insulation and would make/break as it was moved. Just when I thought that was all, one of the marker lights pair was shorting out on the edge of the pipe causing an occasional dimming, till it finally broke. Some days are more fun that others, right Chuck??
  3. I WILL find a place for the ground strap, and like lightening rod connections will be plain brass, show up better. I'm glad you like and follow what I do, and YES I do get a lot of pleasure from my trains, do a little something every day. I also have gotten into a low spot with my hobby, but thankfully it doesn't last long. I'm just about out of ideas, for now, but sure something will inspire me soon. Glad to hear Max and Moritz are well, Bug sends WELL WISHES.
  4. Sean thank you. Jan, I was able to trim it down to what would be a good size. I laid the box on the pilot, fully fills the width. Too nice a detail not to use.
  5. Jan, : Desoldering wire looks too good to let it go. I stretched it as much as I could, still seemed a bit wide. I rubbed CA adhesive along both sides, letting it set for a few hours then will attempt to cut it in half again. Will let you know.
  6. Frightening, had the same idea. The one I have is a bit too wide. Tried to cut in half, I guess you know what happened.
  7. Jan, good idea, if I can find a tiny piece of braided copper would make a nice detail.
  8. Thank You, today painting the control box. Tomorrow bring all the wiring into the box, install batteries and switches. NOTE: the 'voice response' on my fire stick: I say TRAINS, presently watching a Challenger on an excursion with Elvis as the fireman. That outfit won't be white for very log.
  9. I have no room in the cab as it is stuffed with R/C gear. There is a control box on the pilot which is a solid casting. Fashioned a box from brass and doll house hinges to hold the batterys & switch. All wire is in tubing directed to it. The pilot markers which I thought was going to be more difficult turned out to be fairly easy. I did the tender a few years ago when I had it open to add pipe and valves for propane use. Going to let the paint cure a couple of days before heat testing it.
  10. That is a monster, I believe they refer to something that big as a 'track straightener' or something along that line. Sorry don't know much about diesels but like to look.
  11. Terry, Ray pointed out the damage to the locomotive, which in MHO is severe, to give some one an idea of what the cost of parts would be if they intended an attempt a restoration, and to see if the parts were even available. Your pics and description were clear enough to give an idea of what it needed, and no telling what else lurks in the shadows, no crystal ball needed. There are many skilled people that visit this and other forums, I consider myself slightly above moderate in skill and wasn't even tempted to try to bring that back into running condition. And to Fonzie, while being humorous is no clown, just very pointed in his statement, is extremely talented when it comes to modifying/repairng trains, of several scales . To his point, why would I purchase something in that condition which will need parts, adding to the cost, if I can get one complete and in good running condition for the same price or even less, wise money management. Concerning your 7.5" train, this is the second or third time your posting this, so why wouldn't you post your progress on the G scale build? you may offer idea's or tips to others.
  12. To me that says they no longer want the 'walk in' business. That is a loss for those close enough may want to see a locomotive run before laying down a lot of $$. And mail order only is a good way to ignore customer problems. Sorry to say I see dark clouds on the horizon.
  13. She sure is a beast, and ya got it perfectly. I can actually feel it moving along the track.
  14. Chuck, WOW, seems USAT over complicated this one. Knowing you, you'll have it huffin' and puffin' before all is said and done.
  15. I had so much fun yesterday I just couldn't help myself. This is an earlier Shay. The the gearing is higher than the Open Cab, the gears were swapped with the later produced Accucraft 3 cylinder Shay, which IMHO was too low and ran out of water much too fast. As you can see the relief valve needs some attention, but other wise it ran well, and much longer. Outside temp was 16'F.
  16. Much of the north east got some snow yesterday. It was much too deep for the rotary, still had fun.
  17. PAZGRR, thank you. Check back in a bit. Got some snow yesterday and cleared one track, by hand it was over the top of the rotary, and most everything else I have.
  18. Chuck, Sean thank you for the encouragement. Have to check and see if I can do some snow removal today, The snow is higher than my trains and the temp is in the single digits, still havin' fun. EDIT: 0725-- 6'F
  19. Sean, thank you, I just couldn't think of anything else. I know you like videos, here it is.
  20. This one offered a bit more of a challenge. Very plain loco, oil lamp and no handrails. Made a box extension for the back of the fixture. Mounted the battery in the enclosure with the switch at the bottom.
  21. PAZGRR, thank you very much, I had fun.
  22. I just noticed these topics, Real Railroads Shame on me. Would have loved to have seen that facility in operation. Sean: would like to see more of your layout. Was that a track cleaning loco?
  23. They are designed for Butane, many have found that Isobutane produces a bit more heat. The factory burners can also be modified to produce even more. I have one that I converted to use Propane, pumps out even more.
