Yardtrain
Do i need to clean the surfaces that make contact?
Rayman4449
No. You don't have to every worry about that with Stainless Steel.
Yardtrain
I was figuring that cleaning the surfaces the first time would be a good idea as you would anytime you mate two things together.
Rayman4449
If you do, dont use a steel wire metal brush or one that you might have for a dremel or drill, using one of steel can result in rust staining being left behind for a very long time. Yardtrain
Well no I wouldn't. Either very fine sandpaper, a very fine brass wire wheel or just a cleaning agent.
Rayman4449
Same issue with brass wire wheel as the steel, you may end up coating or depositing some bit of brass on the surface that will then oxidize and you in some way undermine the reason for getting SS. Personally I'd leave it alone.
