enginear joe
I responded on the OGR to a guy who had broke his thumbwheel by pressing too hard. I have done this myself on my ten year old remote. I found that putting a piece of foam door weather strip behind or under the remote's thumbwheel holding bracket, helps give it a nice firm feel. It takes away those accidental presses of the wheel too.
Rayman4449
Just an FYI, if the thumbwheel feels like it's lost a lot of it's return tension (ie feeling mushy) that's a sign one side of the mounting brackets has cracked and is broken. (something that can happen as you said after many years of use) In the longer term it will likely break on the other side as well allowing the wheel to completely come loose. In these cases I advise replacing the thumbwheel ($16.00) and is something I keep in-stock.

enginear joe
Thanks Ray. You are right of course. I added the foam back in even after I put in a replacement. I have a new second remote that is still stock inside.
