Mth big boy g gauge overhang

Do any members know what the approximate overhang of the MTH big boy will be beyond the outside rail on curves. I am building a wall layout and I need to clear a beam. The curve will be a 138" diameter using gargraves flex track, so even a shorter diameter spec would still be usefull.

Thanks

Thanks very much.

I am a new mth dealer and Regina my sales rep gave me forum links to experienced g gaugers including yourself. I have the big boy on order but they dont have one in to test for overhang yet. My existing layout is a o gauge map of the usa, but the g gauge will be a loop around my 25×40 attic with a 17 foot ceiling.

My plan right now leaves 4 inch clearence to the wall and the interfering ceiling post. I am picking up the track today at Gargraves near lake ontario. I want to construct the loop before the big boy arrives so any estimations of an overhang is very much appreciated.

You have a great layout, and i appreciate what it took to create it.

My layout is at www.crocodiletrainstore.com

By the way, where are you located. I eould love to visit your layout someday.

Best Regards and

Thanks

Here is a short video of my MTH Big Boy. It is from the first run 2006. The track is LGB R3, about 94†diameter. It might give you an idea.

I don't have the Bigboy yet to answer this. (June delivery??)

I do have all the radius curves that Aristo sold. Some of the smallest I have, I don't use but are still laying around. I do have the MTH Challengers. I'm not sure if a measurement of them would help?

To me it looks like the inside of the boiler is above the center of the rails. According to the catalogues the engine is 4 3/8†wide. If you have 4†from the edge of the ties(?) and the ceiling posts are vertical, you should be alright with your 138†diameter.

Hi Jerry,

I started replying earlier today and got "sidetracked" with a music store customer and a train guy from Hammondsport, NY.

Your information is very helpful, since my 11.5 foot curve diameter will certainly hang out as much, and with about a 4.5 inch engine width, I need to make sure I can clear the posts.  I am going back to my ANY RAIL drawing and putting in the posts and adjusting as needed to try to get a 6 inch separation to be safe.

Best Regards and Thanks,

Mike
