Welcome. Kind of slow here some times but it's a great place to get answers if you need them.

Very well detailed. I wish the air hoses were flexible. Seems to run very well. So far so good! That UP is beautiful. Great paint on many. I wanted the NYC too. I wanted more but I have too much invested in toy trains. I should sell down as I have many that never get used. There was no interest when I tried last time. I too stick with MTH boards for many reasons.

So what I found funny, is that MTH shows a picture of the KD couplers in the manual. They do not state what model # they use. They show the small box which I could not find for sale. It's probably the #835? #835 G Scale Centerset Couplers with Short Gearboxes (kadee.com) So I bought a couple different ones and went at it. All had larger width boxes than what MTH showed. I found the smaller box on the KD site but no one stocked it. I used the box from the #1 coupler just because it was already cut short as needed. I swapped out the coupler for the larger G scale for better handling over my trackwork. I had to cut the pilot to allow the coupler box to fit where it needed to be mounted. One note for me anyways, I think the whole box should be raised about 1/16" of an inch. I could have done that. I just went the easy route and slightly tipped it upwards for better track clearance for now. I think for the amount of work needed, I might try using the whole larger G scale coupler assembly (906 or 906R) for better coupler swing and spring assist on starts. These short box couplers only swing and are a fixed point coupler. I prefer the spring assist (long Boxes) for smoother starts pulling big trains. #906 G Scale Type E Straight Centerset Shank Couplers with Body Mount Gearboxes - Black (kadee.com) I try my best to stay away from the offset couplers from past unwanted uncouplings. Maybe someone else here has done this already and can provide better ideas here.

I don't have this engine, but.... those fuse like things look like the old track activation switches that blow the whistle or ring the bell when they go over a magnet in the track. There are guys here who have rebuilt this engine and should chime in shortly......

Finally moving forward again! Great news.

Welcome! Look through Ray's site for help and ideas running MTH trains. His site is also useful for the basics for all brands. He owns this forum as far as I know. Ray's Electric Trainworks (rayman4449.com) He is a great resource as he sells, services, and guides you moving forward. He and others here will help with answering questions as you go. Just be patient as they are busy usually. There are many sites. Most of them will steer you towards a certain brand or control system because that's what that site uses. My biggest fast tip to start would be to look at videos on utube of people's layouts. Look at what control system is used (if any), like DCC or battery. So the first choice is track power or battery in my mind. That will (can) dictate what type of track. If you only plan on running smaller trains, owning one or a couple of engines, etc., your choice on control maybe different than others as they maybe interested in running on a bigger scale. (more engines/trains) Where we're at in the country has much different conditions than some members that run down south that may never even see a hard winter freeze. I run on stainless track with track power. I bought it all when prices were much lower. There are new brands becoming available now than when I started. Is there a hobby store near you to look at what's available?

I am watching Bob make a new engine and I looked around the forum for more stuff. I noticed that I abandoned this post. So I apologize. Can't be ps1, right? If polarity switch, has to be PS2 inside or ???. Maybe ps3 first version or nothing at all. That's the trouble with these. I bought some that were RTR, and others were missing stuff. I think this PA release, was a great value. Heavy, robust, good running and tracking, great pullers, etc. Mine just sit here. I bought an extra slave and never connected it. I wanted a PS3 version. I stopped buying for awhile. Too much invested. Priority would be the SD70ACes. My favorite. I have so many engines that they don't all get run each year.
