  1. I wanted to get one of those to see how well they were built. I can't believe guys are still talking about it. Was there even a demo model built? At least the Allegheny had a prototype built. It was out of my price range for sure.
  2. Wow, that's interesting to me. I thought they were all horizontal drives. A rubber O ring to drive a second axle.....Hmmm. I guess they didn't like the K-line version? Some kind of cam to signal or trip some feature??
  3. Does anyone have a picture(s) of the inside of Lionel's motor blocks?
  4. My Dash 8's are delayed 'til April or May now.
  5. I wonder why just this one 70-2099-1 UP, had a different ship date then Dec? It's for April. Maybe it was added later? I sent them an email to get a shipping date.
  6. I got a MTH O scale Allegheny that I had converted to two rail. It suffered the exact symptom you show. I had to re-design the pickups to keep them from shorting out the tires to the frame. I ended up adding power pick-up points in the trailing truck and the tender to lessen the power draw on these wheel/tire pick-ups alone.
  7. come on Ray. U could have 99 in one remote??? I know U want more!
  8. That is one heck of a streamliner build on your web page! Wow.
  9. I'm hoping the new engines ship this week!
  10. Well first Happy Birthday! The stuff here is so wet that my snowblower wouldn't do the driveway. Are you battery or track power? I can't bring myself to run trains in the snow yet. Took me ten years to get them outside though.
  11. and I didn't think anything would work!!!
  12. Looks like the 2 #s on the motor are RS-385PH .... RN533X16 China
  13. Is there a minimum Ohms that the QSI board will handle for a smoke unit? I would have guessed that the MTH draws less than others on the market. Maybe it's shorting the board somehow?? Each resistor is 16ohms on the MTH I think (2 16ohms in parallel = 8 ohms). Maybe just try wiring to one of them and not both in parallel to raise the impedance? You guys would know more than I.
  14. If anyone wants to add command to these K-line trucks, one pick-up lead on each truck is tied to one tab on the motor. I believe that lead needs to be separated. These motors are very weak and easy to stop just by rubbing the flywheel slightly. I'll have to see how the end up running and performance wise. I installed the new NWSL delrin gears inside each and will watch how they hold up as well. I didn't mean to interrupt this NWSL truck post. By the way, those side frames look really good to me! Wish I would have known about them. I will probably get my hands on some 1/29 scale ones and chop them down. I do wish MTH would have released more modern stuff like a switcher, Larry. It looks like you were way ahead of anyone I've seen posting on other forums with your work. I'm scratch building some and haven't mastered it yet.
  15. I probably should put this in my K-line post. I figured I'd show it here for comparison. This is the top inside of the K-line truck.
  16. Thank you for posting that pic! Looks great inside, right Ray? I've heard that they offered different flange sizes and I would choose the larger ones for stock Aristo track I believe? The flanges pictured do look good. When I look on the store site, I only see a two axle powered truck.
  17. How much are the three axle ones? I see the two axle ones are $89 each. I don't see any others?
  18. Yeah, unfortunately I have to agree about the niche thing. Ask around what guys will actually buy not just what they want. Most will tell you something else, but they only buy an engine every few years! Some want battery, some want steam, some want an obscure engine, narrow gauge, 1/21, 1/29, ..... and most won't shell out any cash anyways even when they could get what they ask for. G gauge is still a mess. I want modern. I'll buy others that are cool to play with. I really liked the Challenger and my girl said it looked cool going 'round the corners at the ECLSTS. So I bought it. I'd have rather bought five new SD70ACes or ES44ACs, but they never came. Not sure now they ever will. I have to make them myself.
  19. Wow Jerry, looks just like mine? Mine have 18 teeth?? Must have changed the production run? My engine seems weak so maybe they re-geared it??
  20. jerry, click the store tab on their webpage. in the search box on top left, type the part number and click for the search. for some reason this site won't let me post the link??
  21. I recently got some of the MTH cars that I had missed from Ray M here on the forum. I'll have to get some pics of them when I unpack them in the spring. I realized that there were many that I missed. It was great to find them and they look like they're in great condition. I wanted to get more. There are so many cars and engines popping up lately, it seems finally to be a buyer's market. It was dry, just a few months ago I thought. So anyways, Thanks Ray! I wish I could get them all!! Hoping MTH stays in the game.
  22. another attempt at finding a donor engine for my switcher build. I had to put in new axle gears as the stock ones are all split. NWSL offers them for K-lines #2464-6. They are made of delrin and seem much tougher. This engine is light and the motors seemed weak so I almost abandoned it. Now with new gears, it seems like it's a decent puller. I'll have to test outside soon.
