  1. Nice Live steamers are a completely different world. I know 1:1 steamers, so I guess it's not that different, but still ... changing the burner. Cool. What's the difference between the two types of burners you mention? Jens
  2. Ooooh - nice! Oooh ... nice !!!
  3. If a train derailed, my guess is it would crush those beams like matchsticks, which is why steel guide rails between the rails are normally used. I'd say it's some sort of curb for the walkway. It does look odd, though. There are no guide rails on that particular bridge, so maybe ... Jens
  4. it's in the same shipping container as the MTH stuff. They just ran out of days for the first Dash-8 shipments. I find it surprising that they still can't commit to a delivery date ... Now that sounds a bit disturbing. If the manufacturer is running the show, it explains a lot ...One more reason to abandon the Asian production lines - as more and more brands are doing. Jens
  5. That's a two-cylinder engine also, right? Must be experience that makes the difference. The engine could be that better broken in to make the difference. Good fun The coupler break, was that during a pull or was it a fumble? Jens
  6. Yeah, there's two hidden characters after the link. They're messing it up. Try copying the link and remove anything after 'program' Jens
  7. Hehe, so there is a limit for it. I figured even the two cylinder shay wouldn't care Let's see what the extra cylinder does. Good stuff. Jens
  8. Nothing in particular. Show us what you want - that's usually the most inspiring Jens
  9. Looks good, Bob. Keep it up - and keep the pictures coming ... Jens
  10. 'Jens' is absolutely fine. The other one is just my screen name. And if I'm right about the weight and you don't have any cookies, I'll settle for eternal fame. Jens
  11. Oh, okay. No standard as far as I know. I'm just spitballing. Your call to predictions above prompted me to think there'd be a contest and maybe I could win, say, a cookie? Jens
  12. Oh ... um ... Allright then, 10 lbs per car = 100 lbs train weight. 33 1/3 lbs pulling weight - which the shay will hardly notice.
  13. I predict 10 cars fully loaded = 25-30 pounds or 12-15 kg. Pulling weight ... hmmm ... 10 pounds or 5 kg on level track.
  14. Wow Just got back from the first day of the national MR show. I had the car on display, and it caused quite a bit of attention with the audience. Lots of pictures taken, lots of questions asked. Very cool. Then I went to show the build to the guy who did the laser cutting, and walking across the exhibition floor with the car in my hand, I was surprised to be flagged down more than once by the seasoned model builders who wanted a closer look. One even wanted to shake my hand. Looks like I have a great model in the making ... Jens
  15. Very cool. The engines have a nice barking chuff. Jens
  16. Yes sir - it happened indeed Very very nice engine you've got there. Looks well behaved too.
  17. That's exactly why I didn't want them in the first place. This might be an alternative to my own fairly ambitious ideas about hi-levels ...
  18. The weather is gorgeous these days, so I had the car outside in the sun for a photo shoot. This is what I'm bringing to the MR show. Jens
  19. Looking forward to that. To paraphrase from another forum I peruse: "Video or it didn't happen".
  20. Well, your little sidewinder there sure makes up for it. I bet it doesn't care much about what it's pulling.
  21. Very nice Shays are so cool. Heislers too. I've had the pleasure of visiting Roaring Camp & Big Trees in Felton CA a few times. Rode the train into the redwood forest behind both types. Jens
  22. I certainly hope it will last at least my lifetime A little more progress. It's very close to what I'll bring to the MR show next weekend. Jens
  23. The car body is taking shape ... Here one side wall and the end walls are glued and held in place while the epoxy sets. The side wall was slightly warped after the layers were glued together, so I use a straight piece of wood to straighten the side and some pieces of rail to keep everything in check.
