MTH V0 1000, some repairs

That UP engine is now 6 jears old and need some repairs.

The volumen of the enginesound is like zero.

and the enginesmoke is poor.

Problems,

The gasket to the smoke engine is defekt.

The smoke fills the shell and drops down to the speaker.

the speaker stands in smoke oil, dead.

the new speaker  from visaton, the same as MTH.

and the sound comes alive, like new.

I replaced the gasget with an o-Ring.

that should be work better, i hope.

the wick is black, burned, i think that's glass kabel I'm waiting for that replacmentpart.

The Heaters are alright.

And finally i replaced the akku with  2 Capacitors in series.

That works pretty good.

That is a very fine engine and a good puller.

Thanks for watching

Thank you Ray, and here the forgotten pictures.

Joe, the smoke blowed in to the engine shell and kondensed to fluid again. I hope the new o Ring is better.

And a question, how to install the new wick ??? Short pieces or around the heaters, whats better.

Thank you

Ray has the wicks/fans/heater parts.  I pinch the wick between the heaters, seems that is how the factory did it, wrapping around as Ray suggested could be a better method. Might do that the next time.  The smoke is what I like a lot about the MTH engines, the sound also, but that smoke just is the icing on the cake!

I forgot to look back at this post for updates! Very sorry. I follow Ray's advice about trains. Too much wick can block the opening or air flow. Not enough can be bad too. I try to put as much in as possibly fits without cramming it full. I then try and leave a path for air flow.
