  1. It appears that they're cutting in at Silverwood which is at the top or East of the Cajon Summit which happens to be where Hwy 138 joins. The Cajon Summit to Barstow is relatively flat running as that's the high desert. Summit to San Bernadino is all downhill. Those guys you refer to on that other forum are U.P. employees that run both the Mojave Subdivision & the Cajon Subdivision. In the steam days Summit is where the helpers/ pushers would cutoff and return back downhill. I was wrong in posting that they're taking the Tehachapi route as it appears there's another old SP route out of the LA Basin that bypasses the very busy triple track Cajon mainline..I did find it kind of amazing that the U.P. & BNSF would want to tie up any of the Cajon Sub for a special move.
  2. I wonder if a cable channel will make a movie of 4014's move and write a song about it?? Like Monster Moves did for The Train From Bloemfontein??
  3. She's cute...and heading to Wal*Mart
  4. From what I've read they're not going over Cajon..they're taking the Mojave Sub which means it'll be going thru Tehachapi?? Here's the discussion...http://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/up-4014-and-4884-on-way-to-ca
  5. Around here we have the century old Oberweis Dairy that still delivers milk & ice cream
  6. Anybody ever try using this stuff? It does look promising
  7. Very nice work! Would you consider casting some E8 shells for sale perhaps?
  8. Looking good! Actually it only reads the black stripes. Be sure to post a video of the E8 when its up & running
  9. Mark, That is interesting as didn't know you were a live steam guy...That's great!! Yeah I pick on Accucraft but they do try...And I like their trains but I like upsetting Mr. (_*_)

    MERG DCC

Benshell, WOW!! Thanks for the great info For $100.00 I can put up with the problems you mention...What a deal for a 10 amp DCC system! Heck of a lot better than $700.00 and I'd still be using JMRI anyway...hmm

    MERG DCC

Okay so with MTH on the verge of releasing the DCC friendly PS3 decoders in the RailKing One-Gauge lineup I'e been contemplating joining MERG which is the Model Electronic Railway Group which offers a DCC setup that can be bought in kit form. One advantage of using the MERG system is the price is quite reasonable and they offer a power booster with virtually unlimited power as I've seen claims in the 100 amp 30V area. http://www.merg.org.uk/index.php In the past I've fooled around with other companies DCC products and I wasn't impressed. Digitrax DCC just didn't have enough power and was expensive. NCE is very expensive and limited to only 10 amps @ 22 volts on the rails. And the NCE throttle felt "cheaply" made after handling/ using the MTH DCS throttle. JMRI is another great program that I've used in the past to program DCC decoders. It's free as it's opensource. They have free apps to run your DCC trains via PC, Tablet & Smartphone. http://jmri.sourceforge.net/ What I'm wondering is if anybody has any experience making/ using the MERG DCC System??
  12. Jens, That is a fascinating read..and now Caterpillar is the parent owner of EMD. Cat tried but could never get a foothold into the locomotive world as there engines couldn't holdup to the continuous pounding. The Cat large bore design was inferior but now they have the engines. On the flip-side of things, General Electric has the honor of being the first to produce a diesel electric locomotive. They were the first and they're still number 1. http://www.cnwhs.org/ageir/ageir.html
  13. There's a reason for the low at one time price point as nowadays there stuff is getting high priced esp. the live steamers...and those live steam guys got plenty of complaints about their purchases. Don't hear of any complaints with Aster or even older Samhongsa stuff.
  14. Jerry, Me too! Over the years I've had many a different MTH passenger cars thru here. The last train was a set of 8 NYC cars and all of course pulled by my MTH J3a Super Hudson! Just today I was thinking about Accucrap/ AML..Do those folks ever put out a catalog? Online or print?? Or are they so unsure of themselves that they don't want to be caught with a catalog of vaportrains???
  15. Nice looking VO-1000 that you have there Trygve! Think I'll go along with Jerry Barnes's idea and give Sunset Valley stainless steel code 250 a try as the price ain't all bad at around $6.50 per foot before shipping. And I do like the looks of those #10 switches http://www.sunsetvalleyrailroad.com/
  16. Yeah, New product shipping this year from the 2013 catalog is only about 106 items.
  17. Mark, Yeah your probably right about going with MTH passenger cars...And they'd sure be a bit more economical to purchase although there is one midwest dealer that claims on another forum that the MTH pass. cars aren't much to look at...Same dealer will charge $14.00 to ship 6 pairs of Kadee couplers...guess what?? No more business from me. Nick Jr, Dang fine thing to be outside running trains! I can't as my layout is all gone as getting ready to move out of the corrupt State of Insanity called Illinois..We're only the worst state in the Union as far as being in debt..and can't pay the bills.
  18. Hi, Be interesting to see how you make out with this project! I don't see why it wouldn't work
  19. About 10 years ago or so there was an article about the Lionel Large Scale 4-4-2. Seems it was in Classic Toy Trains and the article was basically an interview with the designer/ engineer of the Atlantic project for Lionel when they were in Michigan. He stated that the prototype model was built to tru-scale 1:32 size but the higher ups at Lionel, LLC thought it was too long so they had him redesign it shorter by removing one boiler course. That would be during the Richard Kughn era and I'd find it hard to believe that he'd want it shorter. That would also be about the time that Lionel, LLC started using Railsounds in there loco's. That also would be the era of the second (or third) bankruptcy so it's no wonder they were made kinda cheap!
  20. Dang! They made it to narrow gauge?? That rules me out as a buyer
  21. Hmm, Magnetized face plates..That is interesting
  22. Hey Mark, I hope that AML does get the show cars bid! Only negative is it took them over 16 months to get around half of the 2009 HAGRS cars delivered after the show. I have been eyeing up a set of 6 Accucraft 1:32 30" aluminum passenger cars...I better get my pre-order in
