The units really came out nice, looking great on the run!
-
Thanks to all of you for the comments and Chuck for your work with pictures. I have an Alco S-4 waiting for my conversion project; never understood how to do the trucks!
-
It really is a 'shame' how many $ are spent on re-restorations. Beautiful machines restored and then go back to the wayside for years, then restoration again - like a giant wheel revolution!
-
Thanks for the post, video on removal of the lettering is a help for me; will be removing the large 7315 and Delaware & Hudson lettering on the long hood of a duplicate 7315 GP38-2. Will put the blue D&H lettering on top with smaller 7312 numbering below for the Bernie O'Brien.

I never got a reply on a Clinchfield's question of Hours/Odometer. My D&H Challenger is high run time (original issue without DCS Switch behind smokebox door), I am satisfiied with my purchase and "NO" complaints.
Sometimes you 'win' and sometimes you 'lose' on these offerings; 1 of my D&H GP38's was a low (great) $ purchase and I found it had a sound system when I opened the box upon receipt.

All looks great, l imagine without grab irons would be easier for painting various schemes.

No 'polarity switch' - to ease the situation, going thru the switches (Aristo WR) was not the smoothist action. So, I put R3 1/2 circles at each end of the "Island" and simplified the trackage. When I have the chance, pics to follow.
-
Thanks Ray, did not know Challenger does not have a DCS Polarity switch and will search for track switches to control the track polarity.

My newly acquired Challenger has raised a "reversing siding" for my RR, the 'PAZ'.
This 'PAZ' Island is about 24" long in a lazy dogbone, South end is about 5 1/2 feet and North end about 8 feet, center is approx 5 1/2 feet wide. The 8 foot end is not a tru radius due to some straights added on the West curve for a 30* diamond into the storage shed.
Challenger can come out of shed, across connecting bridge into secondary inside track and left hand WR switch, about 3' to a right hand WR and straight lead. Back thru the straight RH WR and RH WR to a LH WR into engine house. THIS will be a dead track switchable to power to back in, then cutout and switched to power out (reverse polarity) then pull out thru some switches to an X-crossing and backing on the a main which at least 10' curves, maybe some 20' in there as well.
2 questions: 1. Power by removeable allegator clips and wire, or permanent switches.
2. Do I use the reversing switch on the Challenger and will it work.
I just do not want to keep putting-on and taking-off the rails...

D&H Challenger comes into town; although a 'PAZ' Pennsylvania & Arizona acquisition, the 1535 will retain it's heritage Delaware & Hudson number and markings.
-
Enginear Joe, you have nice long runs of track; my ?, is it track powered or battery operations for you?
-
I just picked up (3) Delaware & Hudson [D&H] Lightning Stripe diesels: RS-3, GP38-2, U-25 and awaiting delivery of the 'Queen of the Fleet' - a D&H MTH Challenger! :-)
-
Jerry, it has been sometime for this post and I was in Arizona for a couple of months.
What is current status of the Shark and Coaches, have they been sold?
-
Not a 'true' LACKAWANNA [DL&W] !
-
PAZ Bldgs - LegoLand, Eaglewings, Piko, Aristo, LGB, Homemade and Cookie Jars.
-
From the album: BUILDINGS
Oldest son had acquired a Legoland Mill at Auction when they removed (1) of (2) for display change; was located in Tempe AZ portion of PAZ; May 24th 2014 - relocation to PAZ PA operations.
-
Looks good and the warped porch column is a natural touch!
-
MDC "Lackawanna" hopper ? Anyone have a picture??
-
Also rostered with the Pennsylvania & Arizona (PAZ) is our Hudson; recent arrival and cannot get to the shop due to remaining snow at 8' in some places.
-
and
here we see the PRR unit Chuck is referring to now rostered with the Pennsylvania & Arizona (PAZ) of Wyoming, PA!
She is also pictured with a coal drag as the 5th photo (L-R) in main page photo gallery.
-
Enginear Joe, reminder I have a pair of MTH CN F's; your SFe F7 WB has tickled my Southwest Chief consist!
If interested, let me know!
-
Jerry, GT side frames, I am looking for (16) to replace those removed from my streamliners for the Superliners I got from Ray.
-
As Jerry stated, Ray was the 'go to guy' for Great Trains information; and when the "Pennsylvania & Arizona" (PAZ) schedules Amtrak Superliner consists, a billboard to Ray will be "on Display" at the station for the 'mockups' now reside in NEPA.
All aboard Ray....... I know you are enjoying 1st Class accomodations aboard "The Starlight Express!"
-
Outstanding build, my total interest and you got the start before I have even searched for the drawings!
It is strange that no manufacturer built one, since we have no modern switchers; Genset will follow my MP15.
