MTH back in G

Nice pic :)  Sigh... I'm regretting having sold the one VO1000 I got in-stock... I really like the look of them.  Wish my layout was in my basement like yours is :(

I know what you are meaning to say when MTH left G, but I just to clarify so there is no confusion with others reading this as some people may read this thinking MTH left/abandoned G scale then came back... MTH never left or abandoned G scale.  They like the other mfgs stopped new production runs because the economy tanked so bad (ie sales tanked so bad).  There were lots of rumors about MTH leaving, having sold their molds etc, all of which was untrue.  They continuously indicated all through that time that they were not abandoning G scale but the rumors persisted.  What they did was stop producing catalogs (and thus any new production) for a period of 3 years (Last catalog was in 2010 then next was 2013).

Here in Germany the market for MTH one gauge is like dead. :(

Your VO’s are looking good.

You build very beautiful models, that takes a lot of time.

I only do small things, improvements of models, as well as I can.

The VO's are well designed, have metal frame, good gearboxes

My VO UP has finishing or Paint defects.

I wanted to get a new  .... nothing

I  killed the Decoder, short circuit at the polarity switch.

Cold solder joint.

I got a new Decoder for free from my Dealer

I think the smoke is a little thin ...

The couplers are Kadee.

Thank you

Whoa! That paint is nasty!!

I would think that MTH would warranty that paint? Not sure because of how old it maybe?

One thing that is usually tuff is their paint.

I got an Aristo engine that the paint is coming off.

Makes me wonder if they were skipping the primer at the factories??

This UP-V0 locomotive is from the first production early 2010

Six months later, the color cracked as in the picture.

My MTH Service Center has sent Pictures to Mike, no comments

I wait and wait ......MTH has a thick skin, I also

I have to watch my blood pressure ... .Jan keep cool.

I know this is not an isolated case with this locomotive.

In the future I will spend my money differently, for example. new AMS Hopper.

And Ray, I use MTH smoke oil

Thank you

Well that sucks but the warranty is only good for one year after MTH releases the items...not after the dealer sells it.

But that wouldn't be no big job to sand that area down & re-paint it  :)

I was wrong as I just re-read the warranty...Items have to be sold from a MTH dealer within 5 years of being released then the buyer has a 1 year warranty.

So an item can sit on the shelf for 5 years and still be warrantied...hmm  :)

If this was 6 months after purchase the dealer needs to do the necessary follow-up to get it taken care of. If sending an email doesnt get a response, then they should call. Whatever it takes to get it taken care of but thats their job. They would have more in stock 6 months in. This is the first Ive seen of any paint peeling issue on any of their engines. I ask about the smoke fluid because that would seem to be an area where smoke fluid will dampen the body during use or if spilled.

You are right, normally the painting of MTH is very good. I like it.

The engine remains as it is, the fish is eaten, if you know what I mean.

The smoker,

If I start the engine, the smoke is very thin, barely visible.

To get more smoke I press labored smoke.

At level 5 or 6, the smoke is clearly visible, a beautiful flag.

The ammeter shows the more power consumption of the smoke unit

I do not want to overheat or kill the smoke unit.

To fill the smoke unit I use a pipette, because the hole is a bit small.

There is no leakage at the shell.

I think the plastic channel between the smoke unit and exhaust is too long and

too thin. I have a picture. The gasket was not sitting correct, I replaced it.

There are also V0 with 4 exhaust pipes, is there a difference?

Now, what I want is more smoke without using labored smoke at the remote like my Dash 8’s. and F7.

Thank you

The smoke unit can have weaker output if:

the wick is burnt, the wick is blocking the output, the unit is turned down under DCS or with the smoke volume knob in conventional, the fan motor is dying, etc.

My Challengers are just weaker than all my other engines. They always were. I've tried re-wicking them, playing with the hole sizes, etc.

Some of my O scale engines are lower output too.

Some smoke like crazy. I think the board's output or variables in the parts, might be the reasons?? I tried ordering replacement smoke elements. They didn't have any for G scale.

Thank you for your experiences, it helps me.

All my engines will be slightly different with smoke and speed.

I have not done anything wrong.

What I miss in DCS, accessory decoder for installation in freight cars or coaches.

That example here goes very well with DCC

The DCC-decoder controls motor and couplers. Works good with AMS couplers.

They never released a lite version of the PS2 board. The ones in the Railking line don't use all the light functions and sometimes don't have smoke units. The boards are still full function though.

I'm hoping that I can get a smaller version of the new O gauge PS3 board soon. The first ones out are pretty big in O gauge. Maybe I'll be able to get an S gauge board to install in small spaces. With them making boards in so many smaller scales, I hope they will become available for other uses. Maybe even a smaller, less function board for things like you show with coupler use. How about just a board for sound in a mechanical refer with electro couplers too.

I forgot something else about the smoke units. The latest releases from MTH have the diesel exhaust hooked up different. It has more variable stages that go up with the throttle to emulate the real thing.
