bettyanna4449
Our group is running a railway with approx 500 ft LGB track, wide turns, no excessive grades. We are interested in narrow gauge 1:24 scale live steam to run on our track.Question: what are the issues trying to mix LGB rolling stock with an engine like this, and will it look stupid? Also, what percent grade is 10" in 50 ft? Any advice gratefully received, Betty
Jerry B44
Hartland trains are also 1:24 scale and narrow gauge. So was Delton(ebay).
enginear joe
grade is inches of rise per inches of run. so 1" per 100" = 1%or 1divided by 100=1% convert 50'to inches = 50'x12inches=600inches 10" divided by 600"=.01666 1.6%
bettyanna4449
Thank you, Jerry and Joe. Hope you had a good Christmas. Another question, for any g-gauge...has anyone invented a way, ugly or not, to couple non-matching regular knuckle coupler a la USA Trains, to an LGB-style hook and loop? Doesn't have to be pretty, just has to work, a quick temporary fix for visitors with non-compatible equipment.
Sean
Some make a transition car. One end has a knuckle coupler and the other end has a hook and loop.
Screwy Nick
I made transition couplers, work just fine. The little bar across the top keeps the knuckle coupler from sliding out of the mating knuckle since the loop offers no real support to keep it in line. Look close at the one on the right, nothing more than a coupler with a bent paper clip attached, the plastic one on the left is too thick to go into my LS Logging Locomotives Should be able to make the same for the hook and loop.
