    You can try pre-assembling sections up on the bench. It's better to do that when there switches or tight small areas to get into. I am getting up there too so someday soon my whole RR maybe elevated.

    I believe the inherent flaw to these, is that they squeeze the rail on a limited area. That lessons the surface area of contact and also causes stress on the screw itself. The older ones you describe, have stripped out when abused or overtightened. When you live in harsh climate change areas, you need the best to hold up outside. I imagine it's different in certain parts of the country. We go thru 100 degree temperature swings up here. Add to that how hot the rail gets above the air temp??, directly in the summer sun.

    I got some very thin vinyl decals and just stuck them on. They came with transfer tape which you apply over the top before removing from their backing. That keeps everything aligned nicely. After I was done, someone gave me tips on handling and applying. It was too late for some of the tips. I forget them now. I believe one was applying heat to help them go over surfaces. another was applying different topcoats to protect them which led to an argument. I was happy the way they were so I never touched them. That's what's on my CSX SD70ACE in the post about scratch builds.

    Sean, I was there. I don't know what you look like. There were so many people it probably doesn't matter. I did get to say hello to Mr. Ro. (Sr.) In a rare moment, there was so much to see, I was overwhelmed! I grabbed another auto carrier and left. It's tough when you're broke.

    I only took my Big Boy outside once, and I don't remember having any difficulty connecting it to the tender. In O scale when they are tough to connect, we lay a towel or foam next to the track and lay both on their sides. That helps to show when they're aligned better for connecting. Don't break or crack the connector with extra force. Once you do, they won't work right. If they can stay together, they work trouble free. People complained before about the large tether wire looking bad. This was their solution.

    Well I'm torn between going all 1/32 scale and getting more 1/29. Everyone complains about the size difference when I run stuff together. The size difference does not bother me so much. I wish the USA's had the same metal gears as the MTH engines. I bought a set of MTH PAs to see if the trucks would fit. I always fall for the engines and can't gut them. So I haven't touched anything yet and this winter's almost over. I love the modern diesels and the choices are few....

    I converted one of these cars before, to KDs. I just guessed at the coupler set back. I was doing it again and I moved the coupler out a little more. It looks like I guessed at about the same distance as you set them? I was thinking to move them out even more?? I tried to find my bearings and I can't. I think I used them all up? I ordered more and the shipping notice now says next month!!! Urrggg.

    There's no "like reply" buttons here or other features. So I have to reply and say thanks. I have nothing to add and I don't wish to detract anything from that post with the great PRR M1 picture above!!

    No better answer from me. It almost seems like they change with the type or when they were made? Hard to tell unless you pick the exact prototype of each car. I think some models are overdone on the end curves. More slope on the long center bottom panels but still not much. look how curved this model ends are
