just as a note, and not meant to take away from your post... (BTW: I like your elevated RR for it's ease of maintenance) I had waffled over battery or live steam for a train to run in the winter months with snow on the rails. I never moved forward. I just don't run outside in the winter months. I am very content with track power. I can run several big consists as long as I desire. Flipping polarity isn't a big deal for me. Done at the start when engines get oriented in their consists. (PS3 engines don't need it.) I do like the freedom of battery. I think I'd go battery now if I was just getting started. Heck my new car is electric. I think the bigger issue is all the crap that falls on the rails over the months. If I had the money, I would have moved to a country side property with more area. I would dictate what trees are around my rails. Not the blackberry tree of my neighbor on the property line on now have! Off to go cut the overhanging branches again....

I like that first train. Even has air hoses? and Fred. Very nice. I never ran a live steam engine. I thought about it though. Waffled between battery powered or live steam.

Why in the world didn't MTH move forward with those features in the Hudson? It would have made a statement that MTH ruled G scale IMO. People would have bought it, even though they wanted 1/29 more.

Did you post pics or video of this engine? I forget now. I'd like to see how well it looks. Glad it's running for you now. How well does it perform?

BTW, great use of that explorer. I never learned much about it. I wanted a dedicated battery engine(s) that I would run in winter only to keep better use of my outdoor RR.

I had always wished for continued refinement of the MTH PS3 sounds and boards. They did some pretty good updating. Then it seemed to stall to me. Of course, now we know why. I had hoped for better drifting and labored automatic sounds. Better articulated sounds than just the random chuffing ones used. Of course, looking forward to the board set that would have eliminated the tach, that never came. Smaller user installed board sets that could be utilized into smaller engines like from the S scale line-up. Etc. Now I just hope for continued long term support in some form.

was that flywheel already there? Is it all the extra brass detailing that makes it tuff to work on the engine? Cool to see inside and your work.

I am glad to see any new offerings in G scale. I especially like the modern stuff! Will they have a chassis available for the containers? They look good from here. We're losing MTH one gauge over here and they never really built modern rolling stock that I had hoped for. Atlas would not go into the 1/32 market. I really like their O scale rolling stock. I guess I'll be even more jealous now, as time passes?

I love when cars have real bearings inside. The Accucraft pass cars have them too. They just don't have that level of detailing. I also put bearings into several USA trains cars I own. I have a grade around my back yard and the engines have to work hard for every lap. So adding bearings saves a lot of wear and tear on them.

I was looking at the Lionel sets for possibly running around my G scale in the winter. At first, I hoped for track power, and better quality. Something like their Polar express in O scale electric version with metal wheels. Now I'm thinking of battery so I don't have to go out back and power up. Maybe I could plop the train on the rails and watch it run from inside? Most of them look fairly "delicate". Is there a better choice and would run longer without wearing out? I know I could get a battery car going for my MTH one gauge. I don't wish to wreck them in the snow. I have an old Bachmann set that maybe a better choice for battery. I just don't think it's worth the trouble of conversion. I figure for less effort I could just grab a Lionel RTR set or just the engine and remote.
