FYI to everyone, I now have the new PS3 boards to upgrade existing PS2 engines.  Please visit my website and email me if interested.

I have also updated the "Protosound 3 thread" here:  http://www.gscaletrainforum.com/index.php?/topic/429-protosound-3-whats-new-with-mths-ps3-vs-ps2/

Also wanted to share another benefit of going to the new PS3 (this is for both factory and upgrade PS3 boards)... in the past if an engine (that was being powered by DC power) missed/didn't sense the TIU initial power up signal, it would start up with lights and sound and start up running at full track power speed (thinking it should be running under analog power).  The PS3 boards no longer do that.  If a PS3 engine misses that signal it will power up lights and sound but stay put and not actually move.  This brings the behavior of how engines operated under AC power now to DC (as this is how the PS2 engines operated under AC power).

PS3 will be a worth while upgrade for us in G scale.

To recap the key benefits for G scale/One Gauge:

  - Significantly improved signal processor on the engine board.  (If you have had signal/communication issues in the past on your layout, this should resolve it or significantly reduce any issues.  Best results, run PS3 with Rev L TIU)

        - This is relevant for G scale because of the much larger size of the layouts and conditions faced outdoors.

  - Improved audio amplifier for higher sound quality

  - PS3 sound files:  Can now load these to your engine which have greatly enhanced sound quality.

  - No more missed TIU start up signals:  Engines stay put and will not move if they miss the TIU startup signal on initial power up.  (Applies to DC power operation)

If you had engines missing the signal in the past moving to PS3 should eliminate or greatly reduce this happening.

  - Eliminates the need for the polarity switch on the engine as the PS3 board is no longer polarity sensitive.

  - Eliminates the need for the on-board rechargeable battery pack (the only maintenance item you had on the engine)

  - Can now run under DCS or DCC.

I haven't received an update and normally don't.  In normal situations they do get them it's a matter of having them be processed.  Once they make it to that page of arriving within two weeks it's not long after that.

A Message From Mike Wolf On The MTH G Scale Big Boy

From M. Wolfe

"The G Scale Big Boy should be out in June 2016. We re-tooled the Tender to

make it an Oil Tender as the 4014 Big Boy that is being restored will use.

We have added a SMOKING WHISTLE as we had on the G-Gauge Triplex.

So when you blow the whistle in DCS smoke will come out of it. It has

two powerful DC Motors. Every G-Gauge Collector will need this engines

as it is the most famous MTH has ever built. It will now come

with PS-3 Sound System that now includes all the DCC Functions.

All MTH prior G-Gauge Steam Engine had PS-2, which didn't have DCC."

OK ... Ray

I'm confused .. again.

The original post was for the 2013 catalog .. correct?

When you post here you also post in the 2015 catalog .. correct?

Why?

Or I should ask when will this post end?

I will go back into my corner now! <_<

Hi, yes the original post was from 2013 as the 2013 catalog was announced in Sept 2013 and these were items announced in that catalog.  So I'm replying to this post still as these are items that still apply to that catalog and to those who placed pre-orders for it.  This thread has been around longer than the 2015 catalog with more people subscribed to it so wanted to make sure the maximum number of people were given a heads-up about it.  :)

I can see why some might be confused. There are catalogs and announcements that may not get built for some time. It gets worse when catalogs actually overlap, and the first still has stuff that's not been delivered. The manufacturer knows that and offers it again in the next catalog.

I feel that it's the way the world works nowadays. We used to just see stuff at train stores and chose to buy it or not. With all the internet's access, we see stuff that maybe just in the development stages and we want it now!

That probably is good overall to create enough interest in advance to sell required amounts of product. Some stuff doesn't sell well and gets cancelled.

It didn't make sense to me as I grew up in the brick and mortar train store era. We'll just see where all this ends up.

Steampower4ever, I really feel for U! It's been a loooooooooooong wait for U!

Thanks :)

I don't mind the wait, which seems par for the course in large scale even on the European market. It's the constant delays that piss me off.

When I ordered in May 2014, the shipping date was June 2014 and they've let it slip almost two years in two month increments !

Either they have no control or they don't care. I don't know which is worst. They could have told me back then that they expected to ship in two years - or posted a production progress bar like KM-1 does - and I would have been fine.

But never mind.

I can't say that along the way I haven't considered canceling my order, but I'm still looking forward to my F7s.  I'm done preordering anything, though.

Meanwhile, I'm scanning the market for shipping across the pond. My forwarding service offers to match the price of the competition, so a quick stroll around the web can't hurt ;)
